Thanks to all of you, for your compassion, your kindness and your humor. I laughed out loud -- very loud - at the mullet wrapper having hospital admissions resulting in patients' homes being burglarized (thank goodness for HIPPA, huh???), and esp. the "lovely" wedding announcement including his/her first marriage ended in divorce... LOL... notice both of you live in the south... Is this type of heartlessness and lack of compassion in reporting an indication of our genteel southern hospitality??? I think it is...

You are awesome folks, and I appreciate you!!!

Probably not. Mknolan used to live in upstate New York, and he/she spoke about the small-town newspaper there.

You too -- even if you win, sounds like we will get the booby prize for the most local "publicity"... (laughing to keep from crying...)

Right -- I forgot about that post, and it was in NY... The stuff just sounds so "southern" to me - where I've lived my entire life... The horrid gossip prefaced by "bless her/his/their little hearts"... Pettiness is universal, though...

I wanted to post my p.s. In light of the upcoming "publicity" in the local gossip rag, today I told two of the owners at the small company where I work about our filing. I have really been upset and stressing about this, because they trust me and rely upon me to make decisions, including financial decisions, on their behalf. They could not have been any more wonderful or supportive. I got hugs and they told me to let them know if they could do anything at all for us - when I cried, one of my (male) bosses told me that he was about to cry. One hurdle passed, many more to go... Maybe a halfway decent night of sleep tonight for me... (??)

...and all those other people who wish to sit in judgement, shake their heads, and suggest that you are somehow immoral?

                      Screw 'em.

Lots and lots of posts here regarding the background and history of bankruptcy. Some of the factual basis for the process - and just how fortunate we are to have such a process in the U.S. - surprises many people when they learn about it. While I personally struggled mightily with the decision, there isn't a single friend or loved one who hasn't at least heard a bit from me about how BK reaches into Biblical teachings, and also has a strong foundation in the histories of modern civilized societies across the globe. Many counties still have debtor's prisons, and some remove limbs for unpaid debts. Instead, we choose to forgive (but Experian, TransUnion, et. al. choose not to forget for 7-10 years, anyway...).

Screw them too. Learn to live without credit.

Hi and welcome. You will persevere and move forward. The newspaper thing is one reason we went to the next big city from where we lived. When we had our interviews with attorneys in the beginning we also included some attorneys in other counties in much bigger cities (we live in a small touristy area where the newspaper prints everything as well although not originally from here). Our attorney let us know that he could file in his area for the entire region (our 341 was in another big city so it was even further from where we lived). We filed with him and never had an issue with it. Nothing was ever published here.

I have also found that because they publish the bankruptcy list here every week its actually old news and very few read them word for word any longer. Thank goodness people have better things to do than read about others personal issues on a regular basis. Those that do read it well I imagine they do not have a life.

You will learn (read all you can here) and read that the "perfect credit score" is nothing more than a ploy by the banks to control the public. Hopefully you noticed by now that the perfect credit score did nothing for you in the end and the bank(s) did not treat you any better once you were late right? Funny how they made you feel so special all those years while lending credit to you because of your perfect credit score. Now they treat you just like everyone else if you are late, that credit score has very little to do with you as a person as now you have been thrown into a different category while they move on to the next "perfect credit score". You will learn to live without the burden of trying to get into the good graces of the banks, it is very freeing once you figure this out.
