Guess I must be in the odd-ball bunch as well re: Netflix. I'm actually saving $ every month by them breaking up their streaming / dvd plan since where we live, our ISP's dont really allow for streaming (gotta love the country! ). We had the 3 at a time unlimited DVD / unlimited streaming and it used to be roughly $22 (taxes incl) but we could never stream. Then they broke it down, separating streaming & DVD; now our plan is about $17 (taxes incl), so we are saving money.

Redbox is nice IF you can watch the movie the same night you get it...if not, you're paying for another night. Sometimes we plan on watching a movie but something else comes up, so its put off for a bit. Not having to pay that late fee is a huge benefit vs. RedBox or even going to whatever Movie Galleries are left. We broke it down and on average we watch roughly 8-12 movies in a 30 day timeframe: $1.30 - $2 per movie as worse case scenario. Still not bad...

Pandora, I really liked Netflix back in the old days - it is a NICE nice service...and again with me, spouse likes it, and I cancel at my own peril...

Smart? Don't know about that...I would put that down to a very base hard-wired survival instinct!!!!!

I liked Netflix before the price increase. I did have 2 mishaps with them - one the movie sent to us was so badly damaged (this is a common issue with Blockbuster Express and Redbox - especially kid movies) and they gave me an issue getting a replacement dvd out. Also one time they sent me a totally different movie that was next inline to be shipped. My email confirmation said one thing but another title showed up.

It's still considerably cheaper than cable. And I get to see my tv shows (finished NCIS over a week ago and now working on NCIS Los Angelos) without commercials and in one week-end. At a time that I can actually watch it.

If the selection ever gets to the point that I am running to the Redbox to get current movies frequently, I will probably drop it. But until then, I plan on keeping it.

I have always received excellent service from Netflix and I considered their pre-split pricing to constitute an excellent value. I will retain the DVD by mail service until I have had my fill of the shows that are not available in the streaming format. What I do not understand is why so little is available via streaming. DVD's will eventually become obsolete, and I do not think that Netflix's new DVD venture will stand the test of time.

kornellred - I think it's more the studios somewhat misguided attempt to keep more control...because indeed most material is not available by streaming...
