Two gallons a week at $3.09 a gallon from the wholesale club. I hate it except in tea or coffee or when I eat cereal. Husband hates it too. Its my two kids and mother who drink it.
I think its worth joining BJ's, Costco or Sams just to buy Milk, cheese, cereal, toiletries, laundry soap and paper products. I figured out we save several hundred, like $400 shopping at BJ's rather than the grocery store. They discount the membership fee around the holidays too. Plus, when you have a family those big size pump style shampoo bottles help.

I buy REAL butter there too.

I also buy sirloin steaks at Costco. They are good cuts, nice and thick, well trimmed and are 3.99 a lb all the time. I've bought hamburger at Costco and like the fact that it's already in individual 1 lb packages, but it turns out tough in a meatloaf. I guess with their pushing it into the packages and then me mixing the loaf, the ground beef is getting over worked.
I used to have a life, now I have grandkids.

I can see why all women prefer milk than men.... they need calcium for their strong back bones (osteoporosis)

Just under a gallon per week for myself. I stopped buying it though, because I have two slobbish room mates who go through a gallon each per day. Very wasteful as they leave half glasses of milk to spoil or throw out AND leave the container out of the fridge more than it should be. I got tired of the argument and buying a gallon for myself and it would be gone the next day.

I got smart and stopped buying it. Now I drink their milk & put a little into my own container right off the top. Since they are so wasteful about it, they never even know what is going on when I pour myself a glass or have a bowl of cereal.

It is so sick because I kept smelling that nasty spoiled milk smell so many times and I thought something had died, only to eventually find a disgusting glass wedged somewhere with molding milk that could have been there for a month. I throw the glass(es) in the garbage or more recently into their bedroom thinking they will take a hint but it is like they don't even know it is there because there is already a nasty glass of spoiled milk in there! Very gross and unhealthy.
Why is that so hard for them to understand.

Total through the week I am looking at about 10 to 14 gallons of milk per week for two other adults including the gallon for myself. Um, something is wrong with that picture.

What is really odd is they will argue with each other over who is drinking whose milk because they prefer different percentages, whole/2%. I have seen them write their own names on the gallon they like. They are not drinking each others milk they are just oblivious to what they are doing with their own.
I am guessing every household has some kind of milk issue. Don't even get me started on the ice cream containers, cheese, creamer for the coffee and the plastic recycle bin.

BE THANKFUL, that your roomies BUY ANYTHING.......
I have one that thinks EVERYTHING IS FREE AT MY HOUSE....
especially the expensive stuff you have to buy each month.
Had to lock up soap powder, freezer stuff, liquor, pop, paper towels, car supplies, etc......
I don't buy milk because I don't drink it (allergic) - if I did he would keep it empty.... He thinks because its there, its free to use -"WRONG ANSWER"
If he ask for something that is locked up - I just tell him I'm out of it......
He's a firm believer in "help yourself" and "don't buy it if you don't have too"..........
He's been hard to break - BUT HE'S LEARNING.........
When I find something missing that I know I bought or had (and I'm a creature of habit), I bill it too his rent the next month....
Sad part is he's 42 years old.............hate to have him as a husband supporting me..........LOL.
He went and lived with his girlfriend for almost 3 months till her mother throwed him out..... she got tired of him eating her out of house and home, the electric/water bill went thru the roof, and he contributed NOTHING to the household. So he's not allowed to take showers there, or eat there anymore, LOL.....
As I tell him - nothings free in this world - everything has a price tag attached to it - and somebody paid for it......
Good luck with the roomies............line them out..... or lock it up....

PS. I raised "hell" over dirty dishes in my sink and me with a dishwasher. I flat told him I'm not your "momma, your wife, your mistress, nor the cleaning lady"...... put your ******* dishes in the dishwasher or start eating out!!!!!! Ya better leave my kitchen like your found it - CLEAN!!! He got the message loud and clear!!

                      Wantabedebtfree,

Nice Blog Keri, you put it all right in the "nutshell"!!

It's sad when it all smacks us in the face and all of a sudden we are in reality and know SOMETHING has to be done. Doesn't take much to "rock the boat" and even less to "sink it".

Hopefully your blog will help someone else also.....

I can relate to all that. This new one I have does not know the difference between a moldy shower and a shower right after you clean it. It is like I am cleaning it twice as often. This is the second time he got thrown out of his own place for being dirty and back here. The TV stays on 24/7 and all this ridiculous stuff...His utilities were always being shut off, not because he does not have the money but because there is no concept of being conservative.
He has no car and is not even trying to get one so me or my cousin end up driving him and that is old. It is so costly to drive someone else around these days. The toilet paper thing- I feel like I am wiping two butts.

Get this one, He comes home with about 8 gallons of milk ALL outdated.
I asked, "Why did you buy milk that is one day expired?"
He says, "They gave them to me free."

(is that not what we were just talking about?) LOL!!

A couple days later I have a closer look at the FREE milk. Open them up one by one and it was all spoiled rotten just smelling it and he was drinking it constantly. I took them all out to the sewer on the street and dumped the free milk out. Sometimes milk will last but sometimes it does not. How can someone not know the difference between fresh milk and milk that is spoiled? duh

LOL! This one here now will do the dishes & they are clean but it does not help because he runs the hot water full blast the whole time. By the end of the week, the sink is black because he wont clean the sink. As far as i am concerned, doing the dishes means you do most of the kitchen while in there. I knew by third grade to pick up my own crumbs so the next person coming does not have to clean up the counter and table after you.

My second room mate has been here for 5 months now. Just last week he says, "I have been here for a long time, maybe I should start pitching in on rent."

I'm thinking, "Yah & stop drinking free milk....etc. etc. etc."

I am a single adult, and I go through 2 gallons a week, easily. I keep a glass by my bedside at night, a throwback from my heartburn days, and I CANNOT go to sleep at night if there is no milk in the house.

I've had two roommates that had no autos........... but I'm no taxi service...... never have been....
They get everywhere they needed too or wanted too and they did it without my help too......
When they start running you down to the station for cigs twice a day and gas $3.00 a gal...........they learn to walk or do without!!
As I told them both, I'm the "landlady", not your girlfriend, you mistress, your momma, or your ride to work!!! Fend for yourself!!!
And guess what, they always survive, get a ride, and always have a meal in their stomachs......at someone else's expense.
I'll help anyone get on their feet, but I won't support them so they don't HAVE TOO............
I've been very lucky in the roommate department...... most stay with me 2-3 years and get married or job takes them somewhere else.... Have only had to put 1 out on his ear..............after 3 months of foolishness!!!

Oh Yeah, and I about passed out when one brought home a pkg of toilet paper..........wonder where it all came from before, huh????? I'm like you, I felt like I was wiping 2 butts all the time......

Just the use of everyday things get expensive when one person is buying the all the others are endulging....... (sounds like married with kids huh??)...... but it's different when your single and these are roommates...... Its not my place to buy their toilet paper!!!....
But we work it all out, I tack some things on their rent when they get out of hand, they can either like it or MOVE...... but they don't give me a hard time over any of it......

They also understand real CLEAR when I say, if I find your clothes in the livingroom again, "you won't own them anymore"....... I throw them out...........yep, throw them out!!! Only took one time for them to keep their stuff in their rooms.

I threw a shirt and pants out on one of them, still have never owned up to it, but HE KNOWS that's where they went....... at least he's pretty sure about it...... but there's no more clothes piled up in the floor in my living room...

When I go to do laundry, if there are clothes in my drying, I'll throw them out too....... I don't leave clothes for them to take out, and they learned I'm not doing theirs either.....

One thought if he left them in the washer, I would dry, fold and put them away for him.....LOL - he sure got fooled. Found them in a tub on the back porch.......WET AND MOLDY 3-4 days later....... sorry about his luck.......... it's a community washer/dryer....
Since everybody uses it - keep it empty when your through with your laundry.

Same policy in kitchen - if you have time to cook - you better make sure you have time to clean the kitchen back up like I left it.... or don't cook!!!!

Biggest pet pevee of mine is dirty kitchens, with a sink full of dirty dishes in it and a dishwasher sitting there!!!

Also if you drink my "coolers" - they better always be one there for me, and the others better be replaced on payday!! No exceptions!!!

And liquor - ITS BYOB at my house....... DON'T MESS WITH MINE!!!

And yes, my roomies stay for 2-3 years...... surprising huh....... just have to teach them on what you'll put up with from them...... ground rules...... and then everybody gets along fine !!!!!

It has gotten real bad with the transpo thing. He expects me or my cousin to drive him an hour to his parents on friday night, then turn around and drive another hour to pick him up on sunday. That is 4 hours total driving time and not a cent for gas. I told my cousin he can take the bus just like the rest of us would.

His parents have millions and they wont even make that trip because he abused their help for so long.

I did start adding 1/3 of the utilities and told him to pay his share of that & he has. It does not really help though because I know how much they have gone up with a third person here.

This is how I felt about all those gallons of free spoiled milk. There is no way I was going to let him keep drinking it and risk getting sick. I aint going to wash, dry, fold, put away, someone elses laundry either. If that happened here, he would not even know the clothes turned moldy & probably keep wearing them.

One BIG PROBLEM here was the shoes. I found myself tripping over his shoes constantly. I asked him, "Please do not leave your shoes in the middle of the floor where others walk, you don't have to put them away but please put them to the side."
He did not care that I had just broke my jaw...

After my broken jaw surgery and after the third time I tripped over his shoes almost falling flat on my face, I started throwing his shoes out the back door and I did not care how he felt about that. I went off really bad because I came real close to busting my face one time. It only took about three times of throwing his shoes out the door, and I have not tripped over them any more. He got the picture.

We have no dishwasher but it is not the dishes so much as it is the black moldy sink, spills and crumbs all over the counter and floor. How can you wash dishes in a black moldy sink? How can someone not see how important it is to keep the sink and counters clean?
I am always disinfecting because I do not want to get sick.

This guy can spend 4.50 a pint on Ben & Jerrys ice Cream, he can start buying these other supplies. I counted eight of those ice cream containers sitting on his nightstand all turning moldy like he is collecting them.

Also if you drink my "coolers" - they better always be one there for me, and the others better be replaced on payday!! No exceptions!!!

And liquor - ITS BYOB at my house....... DON'T MESS WITH MINE!!!
This is part of the problem as he is a severe alcoholic and is not allowed to drink at any time that he is living here nor go somewhere else and drink. A very selfish alcoholic and I told him so. When my room mate has/had his own place he will disappear for two weeks at a time and stay wasted on hard liquor. He knows, the very first time he gets drunk while living here, he is out.
His past two landlords did not throw him out because he could not pay, it was because they smelled the rot and went inside to find about 50 garbage bags of stinking rubbish, spoiled food & liqour bottles all over the place that he was too lazy to to take to the dumpster.
There is no way I am going to let this house get like that.

We would probably make good roomies, keeping the other roomies in line. "Hands off my coolers, put your shoes & clothes away, buy your own toilet paper and dont bring home free spoiled milk."

MInny, this one time was so funny! All he ever does is watch TV. Go to work then lay in bed watching TV.
One day he says, "I need to get more excercise."
I said, "Start mowing the lawn every week, like I do, that is a good way to get excercise."
He mowed it one time over this summer.

Last time he stayed here was in the winter, Not once did he ever offer to help shovel snow. I asked him for help but he felt he did not need to shovel the driveway because he has no car.
He gets free taxi service, free ride to work, free gasoline, free storage, free truck to help move his junk, free movers, free rent, free toilet paper, free laundry detergent, bleach and dish soap, free food.............free spoiled milk.

This has been a good venting session for me. I am so over it.

My boyfriend and I will have a quart of milk in the fridge, but it usually goes bad before we can finish it. We only use it in instant mashed potatoes, or me when I very rarely make cream of wheat.

For me, however, it's 1/2 N 1/2. I absolutely HAVE to have it in my coffee. I can't do without. Oh, and I am a big cheese eater. I loves me the cheeses!

A note on the cooking and cleaning: I guess it's a good thing my boyfriend is more than a roommate. Generally, the one who didn't cook is the one who cleans up. Sometimes the kitchen can get out of hand, but we don't let it go for more than a couple of days.

Also, we split groceries. I'm so grateful to have him in my life.
