    I did answer it in the first paragraph of my response above. The case takes on a life of it's own. The case will not be dismissed, especially if there as assets in the Estate and especially if the decedent bequeaths upon the co-debtor spouse property.

    Additionally, HHM provided some specific things which I see you have read. The overall detriment to the surviving spouse (and family) is one of emotion and financial. No one can say with specificity what the financial impact would be and how the Trustee/Judge would proceed. In the situations that I'm personally familiar with, the immediate impact is devastating and many families don't survive. I just had another one this weekend and it was with a teenager. Her teenaged friends are about to all be committed because no one ever can "understand" why.
