341 Meeting on Monday 7/27 - and I can't find my husbands social security card...of course he's yelling and i'm crying trying to remember where it is, i've tore the house apart repeatidly for a solid week and it's no where to be found. I'm at my wits end, and I don't know what to do

Send him to SS Office tomorrow to apply for a new one. They should give him a printout that will have his name and number if you ask for it - at least that's what happened when I got married. They gave those out to change your name on your DL. So, see if you can't do that?

i doubt if he'll go for that, he works nites...doesn't get home until 7:30 a.m., and then it's a 3.5 hour drive to the s.s. office in indianapolis., and i don't think either of our vehicles could make it that far safely....i'm ready to just give up.

I know easier said then done.. I read somewhere on here tonight but I am not sure where but they got someones ss# off there paystub....they never look at the ss card...

The SS office will give you a printout that will work for the trustee I believe. If you have an attorney double check this. Either way head to the SS office as early as they open up, we had to do this and it took awhile for it to come in the mail. But the print out I believe is ok.

The trustee will ask for your DL and your SS card. Best of luck! and you may still find it, don't give up.

Our trustee accepts anything with SS#. In MS, driver's license number is ususally the same, so he accepts that. If not, explain the situation to the trustee and ask him to continue the 341. I've never known them to be adverse to that.

My trustee accepted W2's as proof of SSN.

You can take something else with the SSN on it and see if the trustee will accept it. If he does not ask for a continuance until you can get one. That will require you going to the office and asking for a new card. They can give a printout to do until your card arrives.

Do you have a safety deposit box...if so, it could be in there. Check also where you keep your birth certificates or important papers - it could be stuck in the middle of them somewhere or attached accidently to other paperwork. If you can't find it at all, call your attorney and advise him/her and see if anything else will suffice for the trustee. If not, the other posters told you what to do.

It doesn't matter if 'he'll go for that'. There will be situations where the only thing that will work is an actual SS card. If you are lucky the TT will accept some other paperwork, but I would be finding out explicitly if he will before hand. And if not, to the office it is. They will give a print out that basically says so-n-so has a card otw through the mail. It will have his name and ssn on it.

I quite clearly heard our TT say last friday that so-n-so was not allowed in the court room for lack of a ssc. Which would tell me that the tax returns and w-2's that the man had in front of him were not sufficient.

Don't panic, the same thing happened to me. A week before our 341 I realized that I didn't have my SS card. I wouldn't have gotten a replacement card in time, panicked and called the paralegal who told me anything "official" with my entire SSN would work.

I searched around and finally found a 9 year old 1099 that had my SSN on it. I guess they don't do that anymore because the trustee and our lawyer joked about how old it had to be for it to have my entire SSN on it. The trustee said it was fine, because SSNs don't change so it didn't matter how old it was.

Look around and try to find anything "official" that has his entire SSN on it. You probably have something, old tax forms, something from an employer, etc.

While we were waiting for our turn, another guy hadn't brought proof of SSN and the trustee told him to drop it by the courthouse later on. I'm not sure that all trustees are that laid back, but you might be lucky and get someone who understands that people lose their SS cards sometimes.

Thanks everyone for your help...I called our attorney, who in return contacted the trustees office and we were told that anything showing dh's ss# would be fine, so I dug up some W2's, and a car loan form which had his number on and she excepted them! 341 meeting was a breeze, I don't know what i was so worried about. It took about 10 minutes, answered a few questions, she agreed on the monthly amount $340.00 X 60 months (which is great!!!!) and we get to keep anything $1800.00 of any future tax refunds, and the remainder to her. All in All it seemed like a pretty good day, and no creditors showed up.
