Hi,
This is my first post on this forum. I have a question about the newly increased motor vehicle exemptions for NY. It says that the exemption went from $2,400 to $4,000, BUT for a vehicle equipped for a disabled person, the exemption is $10,000. This is a new category that was created.
I'm disabled and receive SSDI. My question is what qualifies as "equipped for a disabled person?" Does it have to be major equipment, such as for a wheelchair bound person, or could it be more minor equipment, such as handles that are added on, adjustable pedals, etc.? My disability is musculoskeletal in nature and I'm not wheelchair bound, but I have difficulty riding in or driving any vehicle other than my own. I'm probably going to end up filing Chapter 7. Thank you in advance for any help.
