Do YOU call the CA back?

The past few calls from the CA have been from an automated machine telling me to call them. Giving me another 800# than the original one.

Then I just got home today and there was the original 800#, but no message, so I am sure it was an actual person.

    Do you call them back?

I used to call them back and try to work something out, but I gave up on that a long time ago. I will sometimes answer the phone to tell them "I still don't have any update for you. Send me a statement in the mail." It's just not worth the stress of talking to them if you know you don't have anything to offer them. That is their only reason for talking to you. I guess my rule of thumb is to talk to them only when I need information from them.

You call back, they just keep calling back more often.

Never call back. All they want is money, they really don't care about your story.

For pesky OC's it may be occasionally necessary to talk with them if they get nervous about locating you and start calling your neighbors or everyone they can find with the same last name who might be a relative.

But there is no benefit to talking, they just assume you're lying.

Unless you just have an interest in acting and want to practice on someone.

Or want to record the call and trick them into violating FDCPA and sue them (income opportunity).

I am happy to let my fax machine answer their calls most of the time. I used to have voice mail but when I realized I was paying $8.00 a month so collectors could leave me messages, I figured, why bother? I cancelled the service. Anyone I need to talk to has my cell phone. The creditors don't.

I dunno...we aren't there yet...probably another month. But seems to me it's an easy answer. If you are filling for BK any time soon don't waste your time. If you want to buy some time....pick a day each week to call them back and tell them a sad story that might buy you some time. If you are trying to settle...yeah...call them back.
