I completely agree, it is a complete waste of time to talking with any of these people over the phone. Any decision to sue or not sue is not going to have anything to do with what you tell a collector on the phone. It is all about legal harassment and trying to con you into sending money, there is nothing more to it than that. No negotiation, no "helping".

Caution, CA's are getting trickier by the minute

Agreed! The only reason you might want to speak to a CA is to inform them that you are exercising your rights under the FDCPA and would like written information. If they already sent you written information and you ignored it, then they will continue to call you until you send a cease and desist communications letter to them.
In terms of lawsuits, the individual you are speakng with on the phone is probably only after money as they work collections and are paid partly by commissions. They are not going to sue anyone.
Occasionally, there are stories that refer to CA's and creditors calling neighbors. I doubt this is the norm. And, it probably occurs when the debtor severs all communication or does not exercise their legal rights to ask CA's for debt verification or requests cease and desist of communication.
I have none accounts in collections, but I get no collection calls any longer. No one has sued me other than the local companies I encouraged to sue me in small claims. Even then, they wanted to try "anything" that would keep the legal action from occurring.
So, I don't think it is to your advantage to speak with CA's unless you need an address to send them a C&D letter. Original creditors can be another story.
