    IRS Debt and Discharge Date???

I filed Chapter 7 on 5/20/11; my 341 meeting is 6/23. I'm unemployed and was not able to pay my federal or state taxes this year, plus I owe a small amount from an old installment agreement with the IRS from 2008. I looked on PACER and saw that my creditors have until 8/22 to file an objection to discharge (which my lawyer assures me they won't do since I've been unemployed for 20 months), BUT the IRS has until 11/18 to verify that the taxdebt is valid, even though I am reaffirming the tax debt. Does this mean that I won't be discharged/closed until after 11/18 (instead of 8/22 when the creditors can no longer object)?? I hope not, because I'm ready for this to be over as soon as possible!!

    1. You do NOT need to reaffirm the tax debt. The tax debt is simply non-dischargeable, you will just owe it after your BK is discharge
    2. No, the fact that the government has extended response time should not hold up your discharge

Really, there is nothing you, nor the IRS, need do. The taxes are non-dischargeable, once your BK is discharged, you can figure what you want to do at that point.
