Will having a default judgement prevent me from finding another job?

In a twisted series of events, I visited an attorney this afternoon to discuss filing my Chapter 7 today. On the way home, I was called and offered a job with an employer that I had a phone interview with eariler in the morning. I just have to pass all the background checks. My question is: Will my default judgement show up?

I wasn't planning on actually filing until sometime next month, in light of this, I may do it tomorrow morning. I need this job and don't want anything like this to mess it up. If I do file tomorrow, how long does it take for the judgements to get taken off (if they will get taken off) so they won't see it if they run a background or credit check?

Also, once filed, what happens to all of the delinquent accounts that show? Would the employer still see them when they pull a credit report?

    thanks

When looking at your credit reports:

Before you file, the delinquent accounts are going to show that they are delinquent.

Sometime during/after the bk process, they accounts are going to show IIB (Discharged in Bankruptcy)

As to the judgment, "someone" has to place it on your credit report. Just because you have one doesn't mean that it gets reported to the credit bureaus.

If the judgment is turned over to a collection agency, they will report it on your credit.

My 2 cents, is; accept the job but in your person on person interview, I would be totally up front, and tell them how much you appreciate the "opportunity" to advance in a wonderful "career job" being offered as you have had some bad fortune recently due to the National economic down turn. It is my experience that if you have a "skeleton" in your closet, it is best to reveal it yourself than to have someone else "discover" it. You will be respected much more. (of course no guarantee only my advice. Take it for what it's worth). 'Hub

Doubtful it will show up unless they do pull your credit report and it's on there. I found out from our HR department that our background checks are criminal only. Civil judgments only show up on a different level of background check. Unless it's a financial job you may be fine. My employer didn't even pull my credit and I have a company CC.

That being said, I agree with Hub. Honesty goes a long way and a LOT of people are in this boat.
A fresh start is a beautiful thing. And I'm not an attorney, just opinionated!
