Not quite 60 Days from DISCHARGE

    A few questions here:

    1. Several months ago I remember reading a couple of posts about Ch 7 that were discharged but not closed with the courts. Anyone experience this? I recall a suggestion to call the courts and ask as it's merely paperwork. (I was unable to find these former posts in a search.) I was discharged 10/24/10.

    2. I also had a ~$1600 balance with Best Buy (HSBC). They claim my purchased were secured property. Via their website and gave my phone# and agreed to surrender the collateral . I never heard back. Anyone know how I can find out if that was discharged (a way besides running a credit report)?

    3. And finally, just a positive comment. The other day, I used my Macy's account (not included in BK because there was no balance) and it was accepted. The next day, I paid the balance. I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe there's hope to rebuild credit.

    Hi clearslate,

Congratulations on your discharge! Don't worry about the closing, you remembered correctly, it is just administrative procedure on the courts part.

So glad you didn't reaffirm or cough up cash for Best Buy! If Best Buy was on your creditors matrix, the debt was discharged. They make aggressive collection efforts once the BK is filed (marginally legal given the stay) and if they can't get anything out of you before discharge, they go away. Used stuff has little value, not worth their time...but cash on the other hand...

Kudos on the Macys card! Little silver-lining for you there. One thing that might be a huge help to rebuilding your credit would be to pull your credit reports and clean up any errors.

Glad to hear the good news for you! Merry Christmas!

My understanding is that if yours is an asset case, it won't be closed at the same time as the discharge, if there are funds still to be dispersed. My case was no asset and was closed on the same day as the discharge.

I had a Best Buy card with a balance, but never charged anything on it at Best Buy. Chase had converted my Circuit City (now defunct) card to a Best Buy card. I didn't from Chase or Best Buy during my BK.
