Would a barbeque pit be considered under the household goods exemption or sporting equipment exemption? Also, would a lawnmower classify as a household goods exemption? I'm not sure where else to put it on Schedule B. The last thing I had a question about is a very old used treadmill, 20 years old as a matter of fact. I assume that would go under the sporting goods category, right?

Household goods or sporting equipment?

Texas. This is actually for my mother and father-in-law. They have too much equity in their home to claim the federal exemptions. I know Texas has both a sporting equipment exemption and a household goods exemption. So I was wondering which category would fit better for those items.Filed Consumer Chapter 7 12/18/08

check state exemptions
Hello NewDawn,
Go to a website that has the Texas exemptions listed. Find where in the list your stuff is best suited. I don't think this is a big deal unless you are talking about some high value property.
Texas w/ the best homestead exemption; everything up to 100 acres in the country or 10 acres in town. All exempt up to those sizes.
Be sure to use Texas exemptions, most better than federal exemption.
Good luck with all this,
