    Mortgage interest deduction

I filed C7 and hopefully will be discharged 5/10. I did not reaffirm mortgages, but am paying and will continue to pay.

Since my mortgage debt is discharged, will I still be able to show the interest expense as an itemized deduction on my tax return going forward? I think I have read that in order for mortgage interest to be deductible there must be a secured interest in the property, which I no longer have.

Will I have to reaffirm anyway if I want to have my mortgage interest tax deductible?

If you are paying the montly payments you can deduct the interest.
You do have a secured interested in the property, only your personal liability to pay was discharged in the BK 7.
    Filed CH 7 9/30/2008
    Discharged Jan 5, 2009! Closed Jan 18, 2009
