Limiting amount money you make after filing date

Is there any reason why you would want to limit the amount of money you can make after your filing date? I have been collecting unemployment benefits over the last 6 months and have showed no income up until my signing on last Monday. I work construction so I'm "job attached" meaning that I can go back to work at any given time. Well as of last week we have a project that I am working on and I have the ability to make a lot of money because the job is paid piece work. (instead of hourly) Is this something that I should be concerned about before my 341 meeting? Also how soon could you start a small business after filing? (electrical contractor) Should I at least wait until discharged or does that matter.

I'd wait until the 341 is over. As for the business, if you're not going to make any money right away go ahead and start the business.

As for the income, we are talking about 1200-1500 a week maximum. I just dont want to raise any red flags after having collected unemployment and immediately after filing having a $5000 paycheck in 1 month.

I was asked if I was making the same amount as when I filed, so if that question comes up how will you answer?

to be safe, i'd wait 'till after the 341.

btw, be careful about telling anyone that you could always get back to work while you were collecting unemployment. i believe every week you get the unemployment check you certify that you tried but could not find a job. if you turn down a job opportunity you are not supposed to continue to get unemployment benefits...

Thanks for your help. I think its in my best interest to wait as well. There will only be 2 pay periods before my 341 hearing, so that shouldnt be too difficult. I was not able to go back to work while collecting unemployment I was just making a bad attempt of defining "job attached". I never turned down work while collecting unemployment. Again thanks
