Greetings,
I recently came across this forum, and am I ever glad I did. My wife just found out that she is no longer employed, we were just barley making ends meet with her income and with the economy and job market the way it is we doubt she will find gainful employment in the near future. Here is our financial situation in a nut shell.
1) current on our mortgage, about 30k under water.
2) current on our auto loan, about 1k under water with roughly 3 years left to pay.
3) current on almost 70k of unsecured debt, but without her income by next month we'll be behind.
I did the Means test for my income and if I wait 6 months the bonus I got in December will drop off, (the bonus isn't a guarantee each year) and we will just come in under the median income level in the state of Maine for a family of 4.
We did use a couple of the cards in December before we found out about the loss of income, one was Sears for almost $1000 because I needed new tires to pass inspection, but the other was an Amazon card my wife just applied for to purchase gifts online, she put about $800 on that one.
Would it be a good idea to try and pay a couple of payments on those?
We will need to wait until July to file.
We also have very few assets and I doubt we have anything that won't be covered with exemptions.
Thanks in advance, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
