So we had our first meeting today with the paralegal and things look FANTASTIC!!! And.. thanks to all the knowledge I've gained through all your advice and help... she all but offered me a job!!! She seriously couldn't believe how much I knew and said that they just hired two new girls and I understand and know more than either of them, but as soon as they were hiring again, she was going to put in a word with the attorney to see about getting me on part-time! HAHA! Anyway... I thought that was pretty cool
So the meeting went EXTREMELY well and you all were right - I am way to worried for no good reason. We are going to wait until the end of June to file so that I can file along with my husband.
She said she sees no reason why she can't get us through a 7 with flying colors, but if something unexpected comes up and there is even ANY question as to whether it will fly, we'll do ch13.
I learned a few things today that I was surprised about in NC.
1) When filing jointly, you CAN double the $5000 wild card from leftover homestead exemption (does that make sense? not sure I am wording it correctly). I remember trying to find that info out and couldn't find anything saying that you could indeed double that exemption.
2) A credit card transfer to a checking account is not the same thing as a cash advance and does not look as bad.
I think the $5000 thing was what surprised me the most. There was more, but my brain is stuck on cars right now.
Oh... she also said that it's now mandatory (or as of Jan 1 - can't remember) that ch 13 payments be taken directly from the paycheck and mortgages must be paid inside the plan.. not outside.
So, thank you all again!! Now I just have to wait 7 months! That's a LONG time for nasty creditors to be calling and harassing us. I hope my husband can handle it. Thank goodness for caller ID and answering machines.
