    Finding attorneys on pacer

I read a thread that suggested in order to find a good attorney that it's possible to look on Pacer to see how many cases an attorney has filed under, for example, chapter 7 or 13 and how those cases were handled.

I finally figured out how to look up an individual case, meaning IF one has a name or SS available, but after many attempts I still don't have a clue how to look up info on attorneys, or for that matter how to look up cases where I don't even have a name...

Please forgive me, I am not all that computer 'savy'... grew up in a 'past era'...but still willing to learn....

Really appreciate all of your posts pertaining to BK, and.... also your help. Thanks !

First, doing this is going to be very costly. If you search by attorney name, you will get EVERY case that person has filed. If you open any of them, it gets even more costly. You would only do this if you have free access to PACER. Otherwise, it is not worth it. And honestly, aside from knowing how many cases an attorney has filed, the information you get really isn't that useful.

Just go interview attorneys, ask important questions (see http://askmethner.com/?p=609) and decide who you are most comfortable with. Searching for attorneys on PACER is probably the least useful way of going about it.

Bad idea, you will likely get sucked into a bankruptcy mill. Google it and talk to a few attorneys in your region, then you will know who to search for on PACER if you are not convinced.
I am a Pennsylvania Eastern and Middle District Bankruptcy, FDCPA, FCRA and Foreclosure Defense attorney, information I post is based on experience in these districts. It is not legal counsel, consider it friendly counsel.

I did this for a very prominent attorney in my District. While in the end it did help me.... my first PACER bill was $260.

I would not recommend searching in PACER like this unless you're in a law library or at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court where free terminals are provided!
        Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)
Status: (Auto) Discharged and Closed! 5/10

I looked on the actual court dockets in my district to get some names. I avoided the ones who seemed to take all the 'easy' Ch 13 filings; looked for names associated with ch7 filings, and noticed very quickly only a few names, especially when looking at the various hearing types. Only a couple atty's in my area seemed to not just file ch 7's, but also were in court alot for issues relating to same. I figured they were the 'fighters.' That all proved true once I went and interviewed a few in person.
