What are some funny things you've seen at your 341?

For those of you who got to your 341's early enough to watch the people ahead of you, what were some of the funniest things you've seen the UST's grill the people for? I'd like to see a long thread on this one. This thread will educate all who have not gone to their 341 yet. This will teach you what to do and what not to do.

There was some funny stories I saw in another thread about a business owner who concealed everything. I want to see this entire thread filled with stories like that. Let's hear all the funny stuff about how people transferred property who weren't supposed to, gamblings, coming to the court dressed like a bum, and all the funny things the UST said to the unprepared people. Inquiring minds really want to know!

I posted my 341 experience recently...
but off the top of my head, it was the person who was dressed like a bum that was sitting next to me, seriously, she looked like a homeless person (ding dong claims it was her!), when the Trustee called a case and for the attorney to step foward...she jumped up and said she was his (the clients) attorney! OMG! Poor guy she was representing...case was rescheduled because homeless attorney didn't have everything together....hmmm....
There was another couple, I called "biker dude and wife"....he got "grilled" by the Trustee because he sold an asset RIGHT before he filed his case...the case was continued so "biker dude and wife" could get their story straight about the Harley....

Those are my two stories....anyone else?!?

    Here's the thread: http://www.bkforum.com/showthread.php?t=41227

Not a personal experience, but from a BK attorney's blog:

At the hearing, the debtor client showed up and was questioned.

Trustee rifled through the schedules and asked why the wife was wearing a $12,000 Rolex watch that was not listed on any schedule.

She had to turn it over right there.

She should have said it was fake! You can buy watches that look just like those for $20 to $100 all day long at various malls.

At my 341, the trustee asked this (very older) woman what kind of business was she liquidating. She said it was adult novelties as in sex toys. The trustee turned so red!

You won't end up with any fireworks. For the most part, they are pretty boring. BK lawyers will have some stories, due to the sheer number of 341 meetings that they go to, but the chances of you seeing something that is THAT absurd is very low.
Filed 8/08 - Discharged 11/08! Not tracking FICO.
                Pre-Bankruptcy Net Worth: -$72,000... Today's net worth: $142,000.
If your FICO score just went higher than your net worth, and you are happy about this, you might have a financial problem!

I didn't see anything funny prior to our meeting with the Trustee - I saw lots of worried and embarrassed folks. The State had a rep there from the tax department and would sit there and advise the debtors at the table (if they owed state taxes) that they owed $X amount to the State and were under obligation by law to pay. The numerous folks that had to go through this just sat there and squirmed. We heard lives dissected and bisected and saw the pain/worry on many folks faces. There is nothing funny about being in that room. That room changes your life and when you leave you have to pick up the pieces, move on, learn and better your circumstances/life.

You're kidding, right? You're UNDER OATH at a 341, and you recommend that people lie about some stupid watch?

There was a guy objecting to this lady's exemption on a motorcycle in her filing. The trustee and the lawyer were wrangling back and forth over the value of the motorcycle which was very low when the trustee figured out the man was related to her and the debt was most likely bogus. He did a number on the lady's attorney. I think the bike was worth $1000 or so.

There was also a couple that had met with an attorney at night in an office complex to fill out all the bankruptcy paperwork. Not surprising there was no lawyer with that name or bar number listed with the GA Bar. The trustee did say that the paperwork looked pretty good however.

I agree. This thread should be closed. There is nothing funny about a 341 meeting anyway.
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick
