    Will Wachovia freeze my bank account?

    I will be filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy in a few short weeks. So far I have no judgments against me and so no creditors can freeze the funds in my checking account at Wachovia. I also have no loans or other debt with Wachovia, so they can't freeze the funds themselves as Bank of America has done to its debtors in the past once they've filed bankruptcy. But I know that Wachovia was recently bought out by Wells Fargo, and Wells Fargo has been known to freeze accounts to "protect the trustee" or some crap like that even if the bank is not one of the account holder's creditors.

    Does anyone know if Wachovia has integrated this Wells Fargo practice into its business model yet? It will take a couple of years before Wachovia and WF are one and the same, so I'm hoping that Wachovia is still a safe bet for me as I go through my bankruptcy. Has anyone had their bank account frozen by Wachovia? If I should move my money (I only have like 2 grand in the bank on any given day), where should I move it? I have horrible credit, hence the bankruptcy, so won't that prevent me from opening up a new account elsewhere? I've used this account for years and have direct deposit and auto bill pay linked up to it, so any advice would be appreciated and would benefit all those looking to file who don't want their bank accounts frozen.

    Chase bought Washington Mutual. Same deal. I would find another bank if you are having any credit problems with Wells Fargo. For checking accounts, banks normally go by ChexSystems, not credit, so try to find one who does not offer credit cards. I found one with no problems and my credit was not particularly good.

      IF you don't have any bad checks out there you can open an account anywhere pretty much, even with bad credit. Try a local CU.

      Do it before you file.

        Do credit unions do credit checks when you apply for a checking account?

          Mine did, but I didn't have any bad checks. That is mainly what they look for I think.

            :::: Insider Wachovia Information :::::

            As of RIGHT NOW......wach and WF's systems are completely independant.

            Wachovia is still running under its own steam (they're having more than enough trouble dealing with the integration of the mortgage department) and under their own policies........

            As far as I am aware - Wach has not yet adopted this policy.

            But if it happens to me - I'll be sure to let y'all know immediately.
            Moving ahead with my fresh start!

                    We bank with Wachovia. Have our 1st & 2nd mortgage with them and they did not freeze any of our accounts.
