How much did you pay your atty for copies?

We got our tax refund today..yes a little late but I decided to go pay my lawyer off with it first. So I should've owed $720 max. I get there and the lady says Oh no maam you owe $950. The lawyer happened to walk by right then and came over to take a look. On one day they charged us $230 just to make COPIES! Can you imagine? He told me that HAD to be a mistake and wrote it off for me. He says he's having lots of billing issues lately. His billing lady quit and I'm assuming she didn't train anyone to take over so they are figuring it out on their own he said.

Yikes! I'm glad I said something and didn't just pay the lady. Do you know how many copies I can get at Office Max for $230? wow!

He personally gave me a receipt that says PAID IN FULL. I feel the need to put it somewhere safe. LOL

We paid nothing for copies. That is crazy, you actually paid them that?

No he wrote it off but I can't believe they charge that much for copies. That blew my mind.

LOL my Attorney robbed us in other ways.
His web site said Chapter 7 $996.00 + $299.00 filing fees.

I though to myself cool,not that bad.

So we retain and have our meeting he goes over our paperwork and says you're $105.00 over the median,come back on August 1st you're income will be lower then.

So I ask is that even with taking the means test?
He tells me "oh no that will cost you another $504.00 to do the test.

DW had death in her eyes good thing she doesn't carry sharp objects.

Now I'm afraid to ask him questions for fear that it will cost me an arm and a leg.

I hired a generic Attorney likely did I know.

I don't like Attorneys very much.

yet i am happy with him because i have peace of mind, or at least as much of it as is possible under the circumstances.

The same way your dentist charges you $1400 for a crown that costs them maybe $100 or your doctor $100 for 2 minute office visit and they don't do a thing except talk to you. You are paying for professional services, their costs, overhead, staff and insurance.

yeah, the payment is really for their 30-year experience, which is necessary for them to be able to do everything necessary in such a short time (2 hours). and for the peace of mind, which is priceless.
