how do all those creditors, counseling svcs etc. get your information, address etc once you've filed BK?

you will be filing documents with the court where you provide your address(es). these documents are public record, and anybody who wants to can go look. the creditors and counseling services and places preying on the bankrupt go on the court system every day or week to get the list of people who filed along with their address.

Yes it would and also the last four numbers of your S.S. Not good at all as well as they can get your Matrix (mailing list) and find out your financial contacts and others. Uncool. 'Hub

You seem obsessed with this issue. Who are you hiding this from? Is it a partner or just a roommate? I hope you're not trying to hide this from an intimate person in your life.

ohiofiler, i disagree that the need for privacy is ever an obsession. i personally don't think bk filings should be public record, at least they shouldn't be so easy to get.

veggirl, technically they could get your physical address too, but in my experience they have not. they just want to know where to mail things to you, so why should they bother getting two addresses? it wouldn't make sense.

With the new technology & the Government, anyone can find out a whole lot about one in just 'Googling'. Now you have the places on the Internet for only this amount of $$ they will give you Everything you want to know about a person.

To the OP who is worried about Roommate, Sorry Dear, he/she Will found out before it is all said and done with your Bankruptcy. Just the facts of life and you should not feel ashamed. I think the additional stress in you trying to 'hide your bankruptcy' will be shown in different ways...it's only human. The way you walk, your facial expressions etc. are different Why? because you are trying to hide something & going thru BK is not easy. You may not realize your actions are different, but honestly, they are.

I'm kinna like OhioFiler. Mebbe if you told us (who don't know you from Adam to Eve) why you are trying to hide your bankruptcy from someone who lives with you, WE just Might Can Help You! If you don't want to tell us, that's fine too. And please don't let my post of any other person posts keep you from asking questions k?

I really would like to keep it private from my roommate, I don't understand why you say eventually they will find out and my days are privacy are over. I can't imagine someone in my personal life looking up these records. why do you think that it is inevitable that they will find out?

It's the same old "grapevine" theory...someone found out who said something to someone else......and so on. While it may not actually happen...the opportunity is always there.
