Just had my 341 meeting and was a little concerned because of my wifes income level and my new contracting position. She is at 6 figures and I am at 70k contracting. I was offered this a few days after filing.
Our 341 was in Atlanta and was pretty standard. We brought all of the recommended items like our tax returns but we were never asked for them. Just SS card and picture ID. Our lawyer had been telling us the entire time that it was all we would need. But I have read here how some of them had been wrong, so we came prepared and it made me feel better as well to have done so.
No creditors showed up for anyone. About 20 people were there. I had used about 10k in June for home repairs and a tv when I thought I had secured another position that ended up not panning out. So I was a little nervous about that.
When he asked what had changed I told him I was contracting and he never asked for how long, when did it start, or for how much.
I had about 100k or so of unsecured debt inluding some medical bills and he never questioned it. He did ask about my house note (3,600 a month) and if we could afford to keep it and that was it.
I have a pending law suit for an auto accident and he said if it looked like it would come to less then 15k (our exemption limit) he would abandon it. He asked for my lawyers number that was handling the case.
Thanks everyone for their support and I hope this gives other high income filers hope.
A few comments about my lawyer. We did NOT like the guy when we met him, but he was the only one of the 4 lawyers we talked with that had no bar complaints and was not trying push us to a 13. He was very competent but his personallity really sucked. Now, what I liked about him is the fact that he knew his personallity sucked so he used a partner to be the front person for his 341 meetings. Over all I would recommend the guy.
Good luck to all and keep your head up. Mistakes are only foolish when you repeat them. Now, if we can just get through the next 60 days without any challenges...
