I'm not sure if I missed a sticky here, detailing what paper work is needed to file. For example bank, credit card statements...how far back in time should I gather statements from them? And all the other paper work needed. Or does it differ from state to state? In which case I would have to ask a lawyer. I was hoping to have it all together before my first consultation with a lawyer.

Is there a sticky for the paper work to be gathered?

I think it will vary from lawyer to lawyer, district to district......I would say:
1. 6 months of proof of ALL income (paystubs, payments, disability checks, etc.)
2. 6 months of bank statements
3. 6 months of credit card statements (at the very least the most recent statements) and all letters sent by credits and debt collectors
4. Last 2 years of federal and state tax returns (I had to request a tax return transcript for one year)
5 Car titles and house deeds, etc.
6. Proof of expenses, such as utility bills, etc.
&. My attorney required me to bring a credit report from all 3 bureaus (this may vary)
I also gave my lawyer a statement from my 401k, even though I know this is exempt.
For me, gathering all of this paperwork was a major pain....I wish I had been more organized in the past few months, it would have made it much easier.
Also, I am waiting for a statement from GE Money Bank, as I know how much I owe them and their address....but I do not have my account number!!!!!! My filing is delayed because of that!!!!! They won't give me the account number over the phone.
Now I'm venting .
