    Any Substitute for SS Card?

I have a client who filed BK after we completed her loan mod.

Her 341 is Tuesday, and on Tuesday of last week, she got a letter from her attorney telling her that she needed to bring her Social Security card.

She thought she knew where it was but can't find it.

She went to the local SS office to get a copy, but it'll be 2 weeks before she gets it.

She called her attorney [helpful... aren't they always?] and was told to try and find "something" with her SS on it.

    Is there any alternative?

    Any ideas?

    She's a free-lancer, so no W-2's.

    Thanks!

What MIGHT work is a copy of her most recent federal and state tax returns (SS always listed on those) and for her to get a letter or note from the SS office she visited stating she was there to obtain a new card and it will take two weeks for that card to be sent to her. It's a shot, but without paystubs or the actual card, she may be out of luck. I suggest she contact her attorney Monday a.m. first thing so he/she can ask the Trustee about the situation and get a correct response for her.

She should have 1099s from the people she works for, or at least have filed taxes right? Just a few ideas.

A W-2, 1099, or something along those lines would work.

So long as whatever it is wasn't prepared by the debtor (i.e. a tax return), the trustee will usually accept it.

She can go back to the ss adm office and ask for something that has her number. Long time ago I needed one and they provided to me while I was waiting for the card.

When she applied for a new card, the SS office should have given her a receipt for her application, as well as a temporary ss identification (on plain paper and stamped/signed by the clerk) That's what I used when I went to my 341 and it gave me no problems. I couldn't find mine either.

when i had my 341 last week, there was a woman there who didn't have hers and the trusty asked for any kind of documentation she might have with it on it. her lawyer told the trustee to check out her tax return which only showed the last four digits and the trustee accepted that.

Thanks, guys, for all the responses.

Seems like a strange thing to ask for.

I can't remember the last time I saw, or used mine.

                Weird.

Also, you'd think her attorney might have mentioned this on day one.

She can't have been the first person who couldn't locate hers.

From what I've seen (over and over and over again), it doesn't seem like most attorneys do a very good job of preparing/informing their clients.

That is weird..my attorney had me bring it to our first meeting, well before the 341. Along with my drivers license.

I saw one 341 hearing where the trustee accepted a Medicare card with the SSN on it.
