    New job now or later

So I just got the notice of no distribution. My last day for objections is 11-19-07. I have read that it takes about a week afterwards for discharge and then up to 2 months or more for closing depending upon situation.

My question... would it be ok to get a second job now, after discharge (end of November), or should I wait until after closing (Possibly Next Jan/Feb??) ?

If I get a job now (my 341 meeting was Thursday and NDN on Friday) will it affect my BK? What are your opinions?

Go get that second job is you choose to. Any time after the 341 meeting and you are fine to increase your income.

Closed: 5/19/2008 - Asset case due to balance transfer and income tax refund

But won't that give my creditors a reason to object? Or maybe the trustee a reason to believe we don't need the discharge?

I should add... my DH makes 300/wk. approx 14,400/yr. He works full time. I will probably work part time because of the kids - details probably not necessary. So our income together probably won't go any higher than 20,000/yr max. That's maybe an extra 500-600 month.

You are just like us! That's what my husband makes a year. I do eBay, but when its slow, my income plummets. Its so hard to make ends meet on such an income. I'm cutting my ebay selling way down and getting a regular job, but I am definitely waiting until after the 341. We haven't actually filed yet so 341 isn't scheduled. I'm happy for you that yours is over, you must be so relieved!

Did the trustee mention anything about the low income. I'm a little worried about that. Ours is about $20,000 counting my husband and my eBay income plus misc. side jobs.

Go get that job. Creditors won't even know about it. Sounds like even with the job, you're well bemow the median.
Seriously, your biggest problem is not the bk but lack of income. You want a bk to improve your life. You don't want to be struggling post bk.

I agree 110%. I think the Trustee/Creditors might object if you were picking up a job making more than the median, but it sounds like you will be absolutely fine.

I don't mean to undermine any of you, by any means but can I get a little more advice? Maybe from a moderator or someone who's actually gotten higher income after 341 meeting?

Just to hammer it in completely. I'm still nervous about screwing it up before it's even over.

I accepted a part time job for christmas money right before we filed. I started the job right after filing. No one cared. We were even barely under the median and I'm not sure if the second job may have put us over or not. But regardless, it was not a big deal.

My husband got a new job about a month after we were discharged. We still aren't closed. No one cared.

By the letter o the law your bankruptcy estate is set on the day you file in a Chapter 7. Technically, you could go out and get a job make significantly more money the day after you file and it wouldn't matter.
Now realistically, and practically it is recomended that you wait until after the 341 meeting as your trustee may ask you about any significant changes in income.
However, you are well past the 341 meeting so you are free to go get a part time job if you want.
If you are still strugling after you debt has been discharged you need to do something about it. No one wants to see you waste your second chance. Not you and not your trustee. They don't want to see you back in bankruptcy in another few years. So go ahead and improve your situation.

Besides you would still be under the median and therefore would still have qualifed for a chapter 7 bankruptcy discharge with or without the extra income.

I took a new job 1 week after my 341 hearing and it isn't an issue. I don't know how they would find out anyways...

The only time a second job or new job would affect your bankruptcy would be in a Chapter 13 and the job increased your income by leaps and bounds.
Then it would have to be reported and your payment plan re-evaluated.

I just wanted to make sure it really was ok and I felt that I needed the extra sense of security. I really didn't mean to put anyone down here, I love you guys and couldn't have gotten through this without you. Thank you for taking the time to answer! HUGS EVERYONE!!

So long as you've had the 341 meeting you should be fine. Good Luck
