According to the National Data Center the claim summary is almost paid off. I have been carefully watching the balances available and have been adding up the principal owed on my case to get an idea when the last payment will be paid off. According to the NDC, I have close to $1100 on hand and $253 from this week's check that was just taken out today that makes next week balance close to $1350. We owe about $1750 on the summary according to the national data center. My husband is paid weekly. We were paying close to $1100 a month on the plan. So if I'm correct after this week we'll only owe around $400 on the plan.
What happens once the claim summary is paid off? When will the garnishment or wage order be stopped? We had a few hiccups in our case. We filed in November 30, 2006. Our first attorney made a major error telling us to raise our tax withholding allowances to 10 before the case was filed. So that means we were paying less into our federal taxes. He filed the case on the higher allowances which meant the next year we owed close to $7000 to the IRS! It was a mess. I ended up firing him and hired a new attorney. My new attorney had to modify the case to include the lower allowances so that we wouldn't owe so much to the IRS the next year. It took 2 years to correct his mistakes. In the sum of close to $9000 which was absorbed into our case. We would have been finished with the plan about 10 months ago. We are now just about paid off and it's July 2012! We should have been finished in October 2011.
I'm grateful that it's almost over. I've been keeping track of my credit score. It's not great but much better than 415 when we filed in 2006! It's close to 590 now while in a chapter 13. I know that we're living on less and still able to pay our bills.
We'll be able to finally move into a house rental instead of a tiny condo or apartment rental next year. My dogs will have a yard to play in finally. It's amazing how you take simple things and enjoy them more such as having a backyard or having a garden.
Once the payments stop, when does the discharge occur?
Thank you to anyone who can help.
