Our 2004 Chevy Malibu just lost its tramsmission. It was crammed down in our bk and the balance according to NDC is $3,600.
The NADA value of it in running order is roughly $3,500 with 160k miles.
Now the dilema. A rebuilt transmission is $1,500 + labor = $3,000 with 3yr warranty.
A used tramsmission is $500 + labor + parts (fluid,filter,etc) = $1,500 with no gurantee/no warranty.
In one's opinion is this car worth putting this kind of money into? Our emergency fund can not cover the expense of even the used transmission because we recently had to replace our refridgerator.
If you still owe money on a vehicle that is in bk and have to replace it, how does that work? Can't trade it in cause it ain't running.
We have to have two cars because both the wife and I work.
