Thanks! You answered my question regarding the bill pay and saved me from opening up a new thread. My trustee also has a payment address in another state. I thought that was strange.
I plan on using bill pay. Worked great when I had USAA but I just changed to Chase.
So, I take it that bill pay is equivalent to a certified check. Chase does not have an online option to generate certified checks. My old bank did but they also charged $7 for it.

I thought bill pay was going to work for me and also be convenient, and then yesterday I got the 'hi I am you trustee' letter. My trustee only accepts cashier checks, official bank checks or money orders. His letter even states that payments made through online bill pay services are considered personal checks and will be returned. This seems so antiquated but maybe he had problems with personal checks and bill pay.
My first payment was made using my old bank's online order official check service and was made as soon as I can see the order to commence payment in PACER, prior to even receiving this trustee letter in the mail. I even ordered that official check wrong. It should have been made out to HIS NAME, TRUSTEE. I made it out only to his name. I'll have to call them tomorrow to explain.
Now I bank with Chase. They dont give me the ability to order official checks online. I may keep my old bank account (if they dont restrict my online access as they had warned they would do since I inluded their cc in my filing), and transfer funds there so I can have the ability to order official checks online.

it did cost $8 for a cashiers check at my bank, they don't do money orders.
When we were paying the trustee to buy our stuff back (we were an asset Ch7) I bought the money order at the post office, then mailed it certified, return receipt. I didn't have to do the return receipt, the tracking number on the certificate would have been enough, but it was nice to have the recipient's signature in hand. Sometimes it actually was the trustee's."To go bravely forward is to invite a miracle."

I'm in Ohio and will be filling within a week. Our attorney told us our trustee requires payroll deductions.....
Big Dan, I've never heard of the trustee being in another state, that does sound weird. Maybe someone will jump in a help us understand that one.Filed August 09, all payments made as of July 12th, 2013.....Waiting on final audit and discharge!

My trustee only takes personal checks or money orders. That will only last until they begin taking it out of my check after confirmation (then I won't have to worry about it).CH13 - filed 30 JUL 09, $1521 @ 60 mos (100% payback)
Done!!! - 01 Jul 2014 I'm free!! Discharged 9/23/14!

my trustee payments also go to Memphis and I live in NJ. I just dont see why these trustees cant keep up with the times and authorize EFT or something a little more convenient. If you have done bill pay for most of your online banking life and now you have to go to the bank or post office and get an official form of payment and then mail it, whoa, thats too much and requires a lot of discipline. Imagine doing this for 60 months! In a chapter 7 its easier because you are not doing it on a recurring basis. This just goes to show how much we rely on online banking and bill pay.
If my trustee requires this form of payment, I will force the entire certified mail and return receipt enchilada every time I pay him. The money order will even have the certified mail tracking number written on it. How's that for tracking? I'll order me a rubber stamp for each address that needs to be written on the money order and also order the certified mail envelopes they sell on the internet that do not requires you to fill out certified mail green slip.
