I grew up in a small city where half of the people I know, bought the paper just to read the Police/Fire news... to see who got arrested. Hey, it sold newspapers in that city (and the adjoining towns), so that's why it was so special and was on page 3 or 5.
Isn't the case - our newspaper is large and statewide and lists BKs for everyone filing in the State. And where do they put them? In the Business Section which comes out every Monday, right next to the stock quotes and other business matters. And they are not in small print either with the headline of "Bankruptcies."

      My only response, Wow.

I can certainly see the need for the Business Related Chapter 112 filings, but not the individual debtors.
      Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)

Business BK's are not listed there; only Chapter 7's and Chapter 13's. I've never seen BK's listed in small town local papers; only major daily papers. They are usually posted once a week in the same section of the newspaper and it all depends on the newspaper or locale whether or not they list them So wherever you live if you live in an area where the paper posts the BK's from your county or entire state, you have a good chance of your name and other info on your BK showing up. It's just as simple as that.

My (naive) thoughts on this are: Who Cares? If you're up to your eyeballs in debt, so what? I know it's not prettty and no one wants to be shamed publicly. Besides, 99.999% people do NOT stop to peruse the listing of bankruptcies. I think you have a better chance of people reading unknown obituaries.

I woke up Sunday and checked the paper....our names were not in there. Unfortunately there were about 55 Chapter 7 entries and about 6 Chapter 13. All were after the date we filed. Either they ran out of room or we just got lucky. I have never seen the listings with so many names, since we have been watching them (because of our circumstances). What a shame it has come to this.

With what's going on in the world markets right now, if anyone still has the nerve to point a finger, I say, who needs 'em? Al the "experts," at Bear Stearns, Freddie, Fannie, Lehman, and on and on, did not know what was going on, and they and the government continued to lie to us all about what was coming. So how is the average guy supposed to not get into trouble? If people haven't figured out by now that this economy, credit crunch, high energy prices, inflation, is hurting people, then they are NEVER gonna get it!

I tell a lot of people what happend to me, because I want people to wake up and pay attention. I was sick with cancer, moved out of state to be near my husband's family and my house never sold. So I ended up in foreclosure and BK, simple as that. Has the idiot financial companies in bed with the government not collapsed the housing market, this never would have happened. I just tell them I am just another casualty of the bad economy.
Honestly, I was a little concerned when the attorney said the plan payment would be garnished from my husband's paycheck. This one is a bit scary. But my husband already explained what is going on to his boss, and he is very sympathetic and wants to help my husband as much as possible. We are lucky in this at least--so with luck it won't affect his career or promotions.
After cancer and being healthy again, I guess I just don't care a heck of a lot what people think--as said above, people are usually thinking about themselves, anyway!
Hang in there, and I fully believe that God will provide, both financially and with good friends!

God DOES provide - even when we don't acknowledge His provision. And sounds like He provided a way to be free of your cancer and healthy again! Most people don't realize how blessed we are - especially in this country.

You need to get over your shame about filing bankruptcy. Donald Trump et al do it over and over and keep smiling.

When I told my closest friends what I had done, some were relieved that they weren't the only one's struggling to keep up appearances. Others wished they had done it OLD LAW.

So now the jig is up with all of us and when we get together every 4 months for dinner and drinks we keep it local and inexpensive. All are relieved.

And the conversation tends to turn to: What is really going on in this nation.
Don't think for a minute you are alone. You made a wise business decision for your family.

If, and I don't know if my name was ever published in the paper, someone had asked me about it, I just would have said "So what. I am now debt free. Are you?".
