Long time lurkers, this has been a long time coming. We really tried very hard to avoid bankruptcy, but we really had no choice in the end, this forum has been a huge help.
We are both relieved that we finally have the 341 behind us. We had our 341 meeting today at 9am, we were the 7th or 8th ones called. Couple of interesting cases before us, both with counsel who really seemed to be searching for answers to the questions asked by the trustee.
We were over median by about $7000 but were successful in discharging approximately 70k in cc debt, and reaffirming a vehicle loan that had several thousand in equity. Our home is around 30k underwater, we plan to stay and pay for now but keep our options open. Our attorney did a great job preparing our paperwork and us for the 341 meeting, couldn't imagine trying to file by ourselves.
Trustee never asked about our upcoming tax refund, or for the balance in our checking/savings accounts on the day we filed. Although our attorney told us to expect him to take what we couldn't exempt.
As luck would have it I lost my job 10 days after filing, but I've been able to do some freelance work almost every day since and have a couple of job offers that will be able to start well before my severance runs out.
Thank you for all the helpful information on this forum, it certainly would have been much harder without it.
