    341-The Meeting of Creditors

    Hi.

    Yesterday was my 341 meeting.

I filed a Chapter 7 case pro se.

My trustee has been a bankruptcy attorney for about 35 years.

I arrived at the location about 40 minutes before my time. I wore a tie and coat and slacks.

It was held at a hotel and the meeting was in a conference room. Outside the room, I witnessed lawyers arguing with clients, telling them how to act, to take off their ties, to cry, and some to even lie.

I entered the room and sat down. The trustee called "Michael Bolton" and a man came up and the trustee joked, "you're not the singer are you?" and the man didn't respond and was asked again, and the man just said that he was not a singer. So the trustee didn't try and be friendly or lighten the mood after that.

The next one called was a pro se husband and wife, chapter 13. A lawyer for some creditors approached as well.

Long story short, the filers, in my opinion, had undervalued their property-like 2 bmws, and their house and belongings. The trustee asked them did they have any artwork, and they acted like they didn't know what the term "artwork" meant. He said, you know what art work is. Paintings. The trustee asked about the value of the house, then he said, I know where that is, those are million dollar homes. He also got angry at the filers because they would not speak clearly and mumbled. The filers were trying to dress down too, trying to look poor but they had expensive clothes on. Like designer, expensive sweat pants. The trustee is going to look at their house. The filers weren't happy. That lasted about 15 minutes.

After that, the trustee got up and when he came back, he said he was trying to get the heat on and sorry for the cold.

Then he called a name, and a woman answered and said her husband wasn't there yet, and the trustee joked with her and said, "ohh, you were lost. I got your phone call."

Then he called me. I went up and raised my hand and showed my id and ss card and he rapidly asked me a few questions. State your name, did I read the Bankruptcy Info sheet, Did I sign the petition, Was I currently employed, Did I read the petition, All my assets identified, listed all my creditors, have I previously filed? I clearly answered "Yes Sir" or "No Sir".

    Then he said that's all.

I got up and left. Less than 2 minutes at the desk.

I noticed that the attorneys for creditors seemed professional, but several bankruptcy attorneys were real dirtbags from my observations and listening to some of their statements. Highly unethical.

Thanks for the forum and the help. Good luck to all!

Glad it went well for you.

The other filers will learn a little about the power of a bk court, from what you described. Honesty trumps "things" every time, for peace of mind, if nothing else.

    Good work.

Haha lalap! Yes, I love that movie, and that scene was exactly what I was thinking of when the trustee called that name. "You know, you can just call me Mike." I half expected the guy to say that to the trustee.

The 341 meeting was at the Classic Center in Athens.

        Have a good night lalap123.
