    Cards That Survived BK

I was checking out my credit reports and noticed some store cards that seemed to have survived (like Macys, Bloomingdales etc.).

I had to go searching for them because I haven't used in eons but I just ordered something small online using one of them to see if they really did survive.

Count yourself lucky, danaf. Sometimes retail store and local cc's do squeak through bk and are not cancelled. They can be a nice way to start rebuilding credit again - used wisely and sparingly, of course
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Did your Bloomies have a balance?

All my zero balance accounts survived, including my Bloomie's and Macy's

No - I didn't have balances on any of the store cards.

I did have a chase cc that I didn't have a balance on and they closed the account automatically when they found out about the bk.

I decided last nite that I'm not going to stress about my credit scores. They will go up over time. I had been debating about getting a rebuilder card but decided against it. The credit industry rewards for carrying balances....not so much for paying off the balance every month.

Since you were just discharged in September, those cards could still be cancelled out at any time from now until the next several months. It's up to the creditor. Therefore, be careful about charging on them until there is some passage of time or just charge $10 now and then and pay off immediately in case they do not survive. There is no guarantee.

I had a zero balance on my Lowe's card and didn't even notify them that I filed, but they are showing as closed by creditor on my report. Oh well..

I would think they would have closed it as soon as they saw you filed BK, since it is on the credit reports and each month the creditors update/view your accounts. So when they went to update or look at your accounts, they would see BK.

If they have no reason to pull your credit report, it could be a while before they see you have filed BK. If there is an account not associated with any bank or lender in your filing, and the creditor holding your zero balance card goes into your credit report to offer you an increase in your limit or just to check on you if you have not used the card in a while, and sees the BK, they could cancel your account right then and there as they have the option to close your account at any time (read that darned fine print again). I saw a posting on here a while ago about someone who had a zero balance card cancelled about 6 or 7 months after filing, so it can occur at any time when the creditor sees a BK filing. The two cards that survived our filing were not associated in any way with the bank creditors in our filing and still remain open to this day since 2002 so it really depends if the creditor sees the BK on your reporits and, if they do, whether or not they decide to cancel the account.
