    Car payments after discharge ?

I posted this question elsewhere on the forum, hoping to get an answer.

    Hello All,
My Chapter 7 bankruptcy was approved in October 2007. I wanted to keep my car, so I have continued to make payments on the vehicle every month. I'm wondering if I should contact Mazda credit (that's who my loan is through) and try to work out an arrangement to eliminate the finance charges that are included in my payments. Has anyone had experience trying to do this ?

Technically, I can stop making payments and let them take the car. I don't want to do that because I need the car, but do you think they will eliminate the finance charges so they will continue to receive payments from me ?

By finance charges, do you mean the "interest".

If that is what you mean, the answer is almost certainly no.

I'd agree with HHM. If you want them to eliminate your interest forgetaboutit! They can take back your car, resell it, and get the interest again out of someone else. They've likely made a lot of profit off of the interest you've paid thus far. If they resell the car, they are double dipping, so to speak. And, the car has depreciated, so you aren't doing them a 'favor' by offering to keep the car if they eliminate your interest.
