    A New Car Owner

Well I lasted one week being debt free.

I had always attended to surrender my van but I was kinda hoping to do it on my schedule, well the OC had other ideas. I received a VM from the OC at 11:00 am Wednesday went and ran out to get a very yummy Shamrock Shake and was back at work at 12:30 – when I left at 5:00 to go home the car was gone.

After getting the ex to pick up the girls, and my brother to drive me home (either know I filed so I had to tell them the van wouldn’t start and I had it towed) once I got home I have a few adult beverages pondering my fate I applied for a Cap One Loan – declined, not surprising I BK them, I then did an on-line app at a local Chevy dealer got a email that said someone will get back to me. Went to bed, thankfully I was able to work from home on Thursday, about 10:00 I got a call from the local dealer to talk about my app. She was very nice, asked for verification of income and my discharge papers. She called backed about 2:00 asking if the van was an open account, I said no it was IIB and it shows that in discharge papers. 3:30 she called back, asking what color I would like my new 2011 Chevy Cruze.

And I still got the customer service of an A+ credit customer, I need to pick up my girls from latchkey by 6:30, the dealer sent the shuttle to my house, and gave me a loaner car to pick them up while they prep my car for delivery. By 7:30 I was signing my loan papers and we Cruzed out of there by 8:00pm.

I was approved by AmeriCredit – a division of GMAC, I used my supplier discount and GMAC sponsored exclusive offer of a 1,000.00 toward a new purchase or lease of a 2011GM vehicle. I was asked to put down 1,000 cash and I walked out with a brand new car, something I couldn’t have done 6 months ago. Oh BTW I did put my reports on Wednesday night before I applied and the discharge was listed - so within a week of the discharge date my reports were updated. Makes me wonder if the courts add them to the electronic transcript of discharge papers.

    So the break down is:
AmeriCredit – a division of GMAC
    Rate: 10.49%
    60 Months
1,000 cash down after suppler discount & incentives
    19K – the MSRP was 23K
    2011 Chevy Cruze

What really makes me feel good is the customer service, I was not treated like a special finance customer and the fact they went the extra mile to make sure I could pick up my girls on time and giving me a choice of colors. Now if getting a house was that easy.

Congrats! I'm looking for a car as well, may I ask your scores? Also I'm in Michigan what dealer did you go too if you don't mind?

I'm glad they treated you so well. Nothing like being treated like a subhuman when your credit is bad. May I ask...what is your monthly pymt? I am going to need a car soon and I did like the Cruze. I am torn between something new with the warranty or something used and cheap. Thanks!

Bobthecat - I got Silver Ice Metallic - a little hehehe story, so I am driving the girls to the dealer I am explaining that I am buying a new car and they are coming along with me. I said I get to pick out the color - and my 7 year old says "I vote pink"

MeLLE159 - I pulled all three and I was avg'ing 602 - but the dealer showed me that they pulled TransUnion and the score used was 574. The dealer was Joe Lunghamer in Waterford - behind the old Summit Place Mall.

Chicagoannie - My payment is about 350 - which was only 75 more then the my old payment for a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. I have two small kids, and I can't afford to take a day off if my car breaks down, nor can I afford to stuck on the side of the road with them in the car. I original went to the site when I found a 2005 Grand Prix with only 28K miles for 9,999 - as I was approved by RoadLoans so when I applied for credit at the dealer it was for a used car. The F&I manager was so nice and was not judgemental, she up front and only asked for verification of income, if the Caravan was IIB as it was showing open and current on the credit report and three references.

It's going to take me a couple more days to get use to a car vs. a van - I feel like I am on the ground - but man it's a zippy car. I am no longer soccer mom, I'm hip mom.

Thanks for the add'l info, Desdemona. $350/mo is do-able especially for a new car with a warranty. When I check out auto websites and play around with the pymt calculators, I'd get $500 payments on some vehicles - NO WAY am I going to do that. I will also need something reliable and no way can I afford paying possible repair bills for a cheap old car. Have fun with your new ride!
