    Car surrender logistics?

We let the bank know we are surrendering our car, we were discharged last week. They have not called us yet re: our late payment, or regarding surrender.

Is there any harm in just continuing to use the car while we wait for them to call? It would allow us to have 2 cars for a period of time, which would be great. Is there any downside to NOT calling them to come pick up the car, and waiting for them to let us know when they want to come?
    Filed Chapter 7: 3/12/09
341 Meeting: 4/14/09 case declared "asset"
Trustee ordered discharge/change to "no asset" 4/24/09
    Discharged 6/25/09; Closed 6/30/09

There is no harm in using the car until they call to make arrangements for the surrender. Just keep your personal items out of the car. Take advantage of the time that they do not contact you - keep the car insurred until it is actually surrendered. Good luck!

Very true and the insurance is utmost important. It is YOUR CAR until picked up. You may ask them as a courtesy to them if they would like you to drop it off, but usually they will call and make arrangements to pick up. Give the man the keys, take your tag off of it, and take pictures of it inside and out. Ask for a receipt. These are not out of the question requests and the repo guy will appreciate your cooperation. 'Hub

Awesome -- thanks, both of you, this is just what I wanted to hear. It is tough for a family of 5 with one car in the burbs, and if we can keep this car a little longer it would be nice to not have to borrow my dad's car...

We will absolutely keep it insured until the day they pick it up! Thanks again...

Most companies are going 60+ dyas before taking a car. Bottom line they dont want it. But as soon as they feel you are not going to pay anymore the will repo you. I just surreneder my car back to the bank on my chpy discharge on 4/08. I was 60 days plus. But i would defnelty keep your personal belongings out of the car and rekove yor place for a tag transfer later one. That can save you a bit of money if you get another car before they expire.
