I am posting this about a month late.
I had my 341 meeting on June 22 (I filed May 5). Other than getting a parking ticket, everything went smoothly.
It took place in a little room- for whatever reason, I was expecting a courthouse like you see on TV with criminal trials. Anyhow, it was just a room at the courthouse.
There were about 30 cases that day. Unfortunately, I was one of the last ones to be heard, hence the parking ticket. I went back out to put more money in the meter a couple of times, but eventually I didn't want to leave anymore so I just ended up with a ticket.
The trustee was very nice to me. He only asked me one question about my case and then chatted with me about speaking Spanish and how I'm teaching my son Chinese! It was so odd! He was very nice and after about 4 minutes with him he told me to have a nice day and thanks for coming!
So, it has now been a little over 30 days and all seems well.
I think I need to do a debtor education course. I got something in the mail about that.
It is such a relief to have those credit card bills off our backs. It is nice to be able to pay our bills off every month and not worry about the credit cards.
I am happy that I filed. Seriously, it was the best thing to do and I encourage anyone who is constantlly getting further behind to do the same. I hear stories all the time of folks who waited too late to file and end up throwing more money down the drain.
I hate that I had to do it, but given the reality of my situation, it was certainly the best choice. I could have been paying off credit cards for a decade.
I will update as I get closer to discharge!
