Post-discharge utility bills on surrendered home

Looking for opinions here... We called to disconnect our power to the house we were surrendering in BK prior to filing. We assumed we would not receive anything more from the utility company having included the balance in BK. During the BK, we received a bill for electric and heat for about two months of service charges *after* we called to disconnect. Apparently the customer service person failed to enter the disconnect order and also failed to note on our account that we wanted service disconnected.

Months later (and 2+ months after discharge) the account has been turned over to a collection agency despite my repeated calls to the utility company explaining the situation and disputing the charges. I'm sending a written explanation to the collection agency to formally dispute the charges. We're talking $250. How far do you think they'll take this? Court? For $250?

Do you know who you talked to about the disconnect?

If so I'd make sure to jot their name down. Maybe see if you could talk to them again and see if they remember. This is assuming they work there and its not outsourced

If you have service with the same utility now it could make things harder.
