Kevin G. Pelkey was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan November 28, 2006. Counselor Pelkey was admitted to the State Bars of New York and Illinois May 16, 2014 and November 4, 2014 respectively. Additionally, his admission to the Ohio State Bar is pending. Attorney Pelkey humbly practices criminal defense, family law, landlord-tenant, intellectual property, probate, business start-ups, and bankruptcy in counties all over Michigan. He is the son of Dr. Richard M. Coffman and Ms. Irene M. Pelkey. Dr. Coffman is a retired Air Force Major, and a published author among other things. Dr. Coffman’s works include To Honor These Men: A History of the Phillips Georgia Legion Infantry Battalion; Going Back the Way They Came: The Philips Georgia Legion Cavalry Battalion; and most recently, Some Kind of Welcome Home. Kevin’s mother was a single mother who raised Kevin and his sister Karen by working hard and teaching them family values. Attorney Pelkey was taught, at a very young age, the critical importance of service to the community, equal justice for all, and faith. Kevin worked during high school, college, and law school, which he explains to clients and students in order to encourage them to obtain employment and further, to understand that if he did it, so can they. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Northwood University in 2002 where he graduated summa cum laude and attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He received his Juris Doctor with a Business Transactions concentration in 2006. Attorney Pelkey was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 2006 and approved for admission to the State Bar of New York in 2013. He is a member of both the State Bar of Michigan’s Criminal Law and Family Law Sections.
