Stephen S. Newland obtained his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Steve then went on to receive his law degree from DePaul University in Chicago, excelling in law school as a recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence. Steve was employed at one of the largest and most prestigious personal injury law firms in the nation where he worked on multimillion-dollar high publicity cases such as the Tylenol poisonings and major aviation disasters. While working on high profile injury cases, Steve also provided legal representation to those unable to afford an attorney through the DePaul Legal Aid Clinic.Since opening the firm’s Libertyville office in 1993 Steve’s practice has grown tremendously. Steve is considered an authority by many in the field of bankruptcy, foreclosure defense, and real estate.Steve was a featured speaker at the annual Lake County Bar Association’s Real Estate Committee seminar and spoke on the topic of “What Every Real Estate Lawyer Needs to Know about Bankruptcy”. Also, Steve and his bankruptcy practice were featured on the front page on the Northwest Herald on a story the paper did on bankruptcy. Steve has also volunteered his services to the foreclosure court help desk at the courthouse to assist individuals who are facing foreclosure. Due to Steve’s expertise in foreclosure defense, he is often asked to speak to fellow attorneys at bar association seminars to instruct other lawyers on how to assist their clients in foreclosure defense. Due to Steve’s success in defending foreclosures, he has one of the largest foreclosure defense practices in the Chicago area and the largest foreclosure defense practice in Lake County, Illinois. In addition to bankruptcy, foreclosure defense, and real estate practice; Steve also practices in estate planning, workers’ compensation, and personal injury.
