In 1989, Jimmy began the firm of Simien & Simien, LLC with emphasis on Admiralty and Maritime, Class Actions, Constitutional Law, Criminal Defense, Mass Tort, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death and other major litigation. Other areas in which the firm has extensive experience include Insurance Bad Faith, Insurance Claims, Constitutional Law, Bankruptcy, Commercial Law and limited Criminal Defense matters. During his tenure with the firm, Jimmy was chosen by his peers to be section chief of the ATLA Litigation Committee involving CCA (Chromated Cooper Arsenate) Wood. The focus of that Committee was on litigation pertaining to CCA pressure treated wood, which leaked toxic substances on consumer/end users and onto their property. This appointment stemmed from Jimmy’s pioneering work on some national litigation and other cases from around the country involving CCA wood. Jimmy Simien has handled complex cases involving serious and debilitating personal injuries to children, including brain injuries and near drownings. He is a contributing author to Children and Injuries, Copyrighted 2001 and published by Lawyer and Judges Publishing Inc. Jimmy has also written articles on environmental and toxic tort issues. Following Jimmy’s graduation from law school, he received a one-year appointment as a Civil District Court law clerk in the 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge, La. He was then offered the position as an Assistant Attorney General by the Louisiana Attorney General and the Louisiana Department of Justice. Jimmy worked in both the civil and criminal divisions, while working for the Department of Justice. He started with the Department as a white collar crime prosecutor in the Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and later as a civil lawyer in the Department of Justice’s Civil Division.
