We knew it was only a matter of time however, we were hoping that we would be able to put some money aside before having to repair major home repairs.
As most of you know we just filed in Sept. & having paid everything up to the date of filing we did not have any disposable income to put away for an emergency. We just paid $104.00 2 wks. ago today for our semi-annual heating/air checkup. Well, 4:00 am our power went out. When we got up we realized we did not have any heat. We called for service and we were told that today's call would be $207.00 and to get the cooling board etc., which will be needed is going to cost us almost $800.00. Of course, they did tell us we could put it on a CC. (All I thought of when he said this was, "yes, if it was a year ago"). This is how this mess started and got out of control to begin with. My husband was very upset and I asked him to call the office and ask if we could make payments. He did, and was told that normally they do not do this but b/c we have been such good customers for over 9 yrs. they would take 3 payments over 3 months. He was still upset because it is the Holiday Season, I am putting a little money aside to get another dog, etc. I told him, the unit is 10 yrs. old and it is a matter of time where we will have to get another one, which we will start saving for right after Christmas.
This is a reality of living without credit cards, but it is also showing us that if we ask companies, "will you work with us"? Which we have never done in our lives, they will help you out. We have not told anyone that we have filed and probably won't unless someone says that they have to do a credit check, then we will tell them up front and deal with the outcome. Yes, this is a tough time of year to be coming up with "extra" money, but together we will make it work.
Thank you for listening. sammie
