    Good News

Hubby has a job! He had a back ground issue (something minor that got blown out of proportion, and he got charged with terroristic threats... has been fighting for a while w/ paperwork issues & such to get it OFF his report) and we've finally gotten that resolved. Not totally as its still on his background report - but he has a discharge notice from the county that he cannot be denied employment because of it.

It will be $ to save up to replace his vehicle which will need replacing in the coming months. Hopefully after mine is paid for! And ultimately to make life a little easier on me (sole breadwinner is a tough responsibility sometimes) since I'm going back to school and will need to cut back hours a little at my 2nd job.

Perhaps a little update is due... Hubby has saved $900 in less than 2 months. Next Friday he will add at least $300 to that. I figure if he can save $600 per month - then that will be good practice for an eventual car payment. Not that he will have a $600 car payment - but a newer vehicle w/ full coverage will add to our insurance and its better to plan for more rather than less. (I anticipate car payment + insurance increase to be less than $500/mo, which tells me if he can regularly set aside $600/mo for 6+ then he can 'afford' the new budget.) Ideally I'd like to hold off on purchasing a vehicle - if his current one will last long enough - until March 2013. GA is making some changes to ad valorem taxes, and I believe if we purchase after 3-1-13, we won't pay an annual ad valorem tax on the vehicle. Just a 6.5% purchase tax - which we'd pay 6% sales tax if purchased now.

I am back in school - and its going well so far. I've decreased my hours at the part time job - just working Fri night/Sat night/Sun. Would like to cut out Sunday or cut it just a few hours on Sun evening but there isn't anyone available to cover my shift just yet. I really like my current schedule (school Mon/Wed nights, home Tue/Thur nights) and I anticipate being able to keep it thru the summer and probably also for the fall semester. Looking good to have my degree next May.

I should have a decent bonus next month - plan is to pay down further on my car loan (its paid ahead already) and do some work on the house. Plus the usual school supplies/clothes shopping for the kids. By the time school starts they always need new clothes as they've outgrown or worn out much of what they have. Kind of nice that I get a bonus each July - I don't have to set aside money monthly for those things. Overall we're making good money choices and living within our means.

We are now just under 15 months until we are eligible for ch. 7. Still have the option of filing 13 if any creditor forces our hand, and I know that could happen at any time. If someone tries to sue Hubby though, its not a concern. His bi-weekly paycheck is under the minimum threshold for garnishing. We would just need to take him off my CU checking/savings account. I do get a new credit inquiry from a collection agency ever so often, and occasional calls (mostly filtered to GV) but its been fairly quiet. Perhaps when they pull my credit and see a dismissed 13 from 12/09, they realize I could file again.

Thanks. I'm in bankruptcy limbo right now, keeping BK as an option if & only if I must file.

I also just realized I'm at the anniversary of my mortgage mod as its been 2 years. Mortgage and everything else on time for 2 years feels good. Not counting all the stuff that defaulted before that - we have no hope of putting a dent in that pile. But we live within our budget now & going forward. And more 'good stuff' has happened in the past 2 1/2 years than bad, so we count our blessings.

                      Just updating...

I finished the summer semester with A's in Money & Financial Markets, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Fixed Income Securities. Registered for fall and looking good for getting my degree (in Economics) in May. I've decided (practically decided at least) to then apply to grad school to pursue a MAT in math/secondary education. With the Economics degree I can apply to a Georgia program that will help me get my teaching certification should I decide to apply for a teaching job next fall. (An economics degree is sufficient for middle school math.) I should be able to finish the MAT in 2 years. That will boost my income potential - and teaching for 10 will result in full student loan forgiveness.

Hubby is still working & saving. The new schedule at my 2nd job is working out well.

Yay for you, Staci! Y'all deserve all things good you have gotten (and it is by virtue of all your hard work!) Good job on those grades, too, with all you do!
