I'm just going to add this to it...

    from E How Tech...

    Instructions

    1

Stop the Win32 Trojan virus from running on your computer. Access the system’s Task Manager by simultaneously pressing the “Ctrl,” “Alt” and “Delete” keys. Click the “Processes” tab to view the processes currently running on the system; right-click any process that has “Win32” in the title and then click the “End Process” button.
    2

Launch the computer’s registry editor. To launch, go to “Start > Run” or “Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run,” depending on your version of Windows. Type “regedit” in the “Run” box and press “Enter.” Expand the following folders: “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\ CurrenVersion\\Run” and delete the “rnd1” and “rnd2” keys by right-clicking each key and choosing “Delete.”
    3

Go to the “AppData” folder on your computer. Try navigating to the folder through “Start > Computer > C: > Users > [username] > AppData.” If you do not see the “AppData” folder in a user’s folder, go to “Start > Computer” and type “Application data” into the search box. Right-click any file with a “.dll” extension in the search results and click the “Open file location” option to be taken into the proper folder.
    4

Remove the Win32 Trojan virus files. The files that should be removed from the folder are: “svchosts.exe,” “taskmon.exe,” “rundll.exe,” “service.exe,” “sound.exe,” “upnpsvc.exe,” “lsas.exe,” “logon.exe,” “helper.exe,” “event.exe,” “dumpreport.exe” and “msiexeca.exe.” To remove, right-click each file and select “Delete.”
    5

Search for all temporary files stored on the computer. To search for temporary files, go to the “Start” menu, click “Computer” and double-click the “C:” drive to open it. Enter “*.tmp” in the search box and hit “Enter” to search.
    6

Delete all of the temporary files on the hard drive. Click the “Edit” menu and choose “Select all.” Press the “Delete” key and confirm that you want to delete the files.

I really appreciate all the information. Now I have a little question about AVG. Someone mentioned that it's free, and I downloaded it. However, after 30 days they wanted me to pay for it, and it's inactive until I pay. Is there another AVG that's free? I don't mean to be cheap, I'm just broke. Thanks!

It sounds like you might have downloaded the "trial version." Keep looking for the free version. I'll look for the website and then post it here.

MSE is completely free forever, you just have to keep updating manually everyday, and do a full scan at least several times a week, or if you suspect your system might have a virus, then scan it immediately.

The same thing with Malwarebytes. Once again, make sure you don't download the "free trial version." They have one that is free forever, and updates are free as well.

I know it seems like takes forever to do a full scan, but always do a full scan. I have noticed that the quick scans never find anything. Only the full scans find the viruses.

          I think this is it...

Get Windows antivirus for PC & laptop: block viruses & protect against malware. Download AVG AntiVirus Free, now!

Just make sure you download the one on the left, not the one on the right side.

I also have learned to delete all "TEMP" files, and remember, there may be more than one temp folder. Mine had one under "system32" (that will vary from 32 bit to 64 bit computers, by the way) and another one under my own user partition which has the "AppData" files.

An easy way to find a lot of these temp files is to hit your "start" button and then in the search box type: %temp% and then hit enter.
A much easier way of deleting all those "hidden" files is to use ATF Cleaner and TFC (Temp file cleaner - BUT the one created by Old Timer - not the other one); run ATF first, then run TFC afterwards - it will pick up those files you *think* you deleted but actually havent. Remember, nothing is truly deleted off your computer - there are "ghost files" that are created - ATF and TFC will perm. delete them. ATF does one thing; TFC does another - but they work awesome combined.

While on the subject of "ghost files" - if you've ever deleted a program off your system, unless you know how to go into BIOS and Registry to fully delete them, there are parts that always remain. This is why its also a great idea to have a program that will delete every trace of them, such as Revo Uninstaller.

All programs above are free of charge - and the best place to get ANY free program is from download.com or filehippo.com (i prefer download). You can read about both programs at bleeping computer and where to obtain them.

I actually run CCLeaner, ATF, TFC, Malwarebytes, Glary Utilities AND AVG.

I wish one programmer would come up with a single damn program to eliminate all the issues that each of the programs address; would make life much simpler that's for sure *sighs*

Nope, thats not the one; both programs I mentioned were written by users of bleepingcomputer. Hang on a sec, let me find them for you.

                Will edit.

Here ya go Going - *you can get both programs through the links*

Alternatives to ATF - posted in All Other Applications: In most of the help I have received from you guys many have recommended using ATF. I accidentally removed my copy and tried to download it from attribune.org and it was not available. I looked around here and saw you guys were still telling people to use it so it must still be worth using. How do I get a copy or are there alternatives?

ETA: Pay no attention to the last post - TFC has been fixed and no longer has that issue.

Oh - and for those wondering if they have security holes - another great program that will show you what is out-dated and a possible backdoor opening - use this:

                  download Security Check:
                  http://screen317.changelog.fr/Secur...

                  Save to the Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the on-screen instructions (in the black box.)

When done, a Notepad document opens automatically: ‘checkup.txt’ - This will tell you what needs to be fixed / updated (it will highlight, bold in red)

Word of caution with TFC (here is another location for download)

Please download TFC (Temporary File Cleaner) to your Desktop:

                  [B]
Save any work in progress!! TFC closes all open applications and will remove any unsaved work.
Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
If prompted, click Yes to reboot.

                    GoingDown,

Thanks for the link. I've downloaded the free software and then I ran a scan. It says everything is fine. Next I'll see about the other free stuff you posted about, including the instructions. I appreciate all the hints and tips, from you and from everyone else.

I am having trouble getting MSE to update. Worked fine until last week. I've tried many suggestions on many different tech forums and nothing seems to get it to update. Even tried downloading the update directly from MicroSoft and manually updating. No dice.

So, I downloaded the free MicroSoft Safety Scanner and did a full scan. Fortunately, no viruses and no spyware were found. I did a full scan with Malwarebytes, and no viruses and no spyware found. Did a scan with Kapersky tdss killer, and nothing found.

Firefox has also slowed down significantly for me, and seems to have trouble loading pages before it times out.

I have switched to Google Chrome (much faster, by the way) and I am using the free version of AVG rather than MSE for now. And I use the free version of Bit Defender which comes as an add-on for Chrome. Did a scan with it, and found no problems. From what I understand, Chrome uses a sandbox and isolates tabs which makes it somewhat resistant to malware. I will still do scans on a regular basis to make sure, anyways. But so far, so good.

I only use Firefox now for a few websites where I want to use NoScripts. Otherwise, I just use Chrome.
