Aw, so sorry to hear about your kitty. It's tough to watch animals suffer. It's also hard to weigh what it costs to treat the animal especially if you are low on funds and have no options. You want to say do anything to save the animal but sometimes there is just a limit to what you can do. I'll pray she turns around somehow. It's the same with humans though they tend to not demand payment before treatment most times.Filed 11/17/11 Chapter 13, 341 meeting 12/21/11. Plan confirmed 1/19/12 - DISCHARGED 12/16/15

Forgive but I did not read all the responses except to scan. Renal failure was my first guess and that covers kidneys and liver. The smell is probably bile. Check the stool if there is a stool now.
The best and most honest thing I can tell you, and this is hard, but honest, the cat is not likely to recover and is currently is distress. We lost one just like your description. Died in my Mrs. lap. For the sake of the animal, put it down. I'm sorry, but after give insulin to my only dog I dearly loved, two shots adult human doses for five years, blind, deaf, etc. my vet did not charge me and told me I should have brought her in a year earlier. It is hard for them to state this fact too.
We had a favored cat that just tipped over dead once, just walking to the bedroom. D.O.A. and I assume a sudden heart attack. I admit Mrs. and I cried like children on that one. I have 3 dogs so I can understand what you are going through. I am in an area that charges an arm-and-leg. Back in March we had to PTS my 13 and 1/2 year old. She ended up having a tumor that encased her heart and lungs. She went into kidney, liver, and already was in heart failure. It was not an easy choice.
Bad breath normally means liver or kidney problems.
Can you call your vet and ask if they can do a special discount. Tell them you have no money right now and need to get your pet into the vet. My vet will work with me when this happens. Of course they have made their money back on us over the years. Even if they can break the payments up that would be nice.
To give you an idea I have 3 Shar pei's. Both of the boys are rescues we adopted about 4 years ago. They are about 8-10 years of age. Both of the boys are sick and have to take medications. Oscar is an epileptic and Pogo has Shar pei fever, with extensive joint damage and a low thyroid condition. After we PTS my 13 year old female we adopted a very sick Shar pei puppy that was 4 weeks old. She is now 7 months old. I am the person that people call in my area to find homes for Shar pei's or to rehabilitate sick and abused animals.
Another thing I would research is to see what food and herbal meds you can give a cat to boost their liver functions and even look into food that has low acid content. If the kidney's are starting to fail then the animal should have a diet that consist of low acid's. You may even try a home cook meals for a little while until you can get to the vet.
I feel your pain on the vet visit, because my last vet visit just to walk into the door, shots, and a look over was 450 dollars. That is cheap compared to what I normally spend. Having Peaches PTS was over 700 dollars. Even a normal spay in my area is 400 dollars. Ask your vet to break the payments up, because they are not supposed to shun away sick animals.Chapter 7 filed on 4/23/2010

THANK YOU all very much...he's going into the vet on Monday...so I'll know more then - the thing is he's a VERY picky eater and will NOT under any circumstances eat table food...EVER...
Now he does and has always eaten my dog's wet dog food :-) (and the dog eats the dry cat food...you go figure!)
We will show up with the cat and I already told them I haven't got a whole lot to spend in ONE lump sum...they seemed - much to my surprise...not very complaining about that...

I'm sooo glad you are going to get him in. Hoping for the best there.
I am the biggest sofftie there is when it comes to kitties. I tear up just watching my 2 girls play. Sqeak (my avatar) plays fetch with me with her toy mouse. She will keep bringing it back to me after i throw it. Puts it down at my feet or up on the bed at night. There usually is the toy next to me when i wake up.
I will come in the door and she is waiting with the toy in her mouth.
DH tells me she wanders around the house crying with the toy in her mouth looking for me.
Told you i was a softie.filed: 8/10 ...341:10/8/10 ... Discharged & Close: 12/9/10

Ahhhh. Mitsy (5 yr old) we rescued from the local shelter. Sqeak (2 yrs old)is a ferral that was born under a bush in my sons back yr.
He brought in the "fam" into his garage and took care of them and had them all fixed. He has a live trap and brings in strays and has a deal with his vet for the cost of having these strays fixed.
Right now i am feeding a stray that got into our garage and was sleeping on some old blankets. Looked very skinny (barely had the strength to run out of garage) and i knew it was being fed by a neighbor till they moved a month ago.DH found it and he didn't know the story about the kitty. other wise he would have not let it get away.
Been putting out a high calorie/ high fat cat food for it. (My neighbor and I are making this a joint effort./ she has 2 kitties and the food is from her. She wants to pay for the kittys fixing.)
Was hoping that another type of critter wasNOT eating the food so put out a trouble light near the food n water bowl to check it out. The other night i saw not only the right "kind" of animal was eating the food but the right kitty was eating. It is looking much better. Going to get the live trap from son and see if i can catch and take it in to vet. Have it fixed if needs be. My DH said "well what if it is someones cat...said, well then they don't deserve it. "
I know where my son gets it!!!!Last edited by oregonpilot; 12-03-2011, 07:07 PM.filed: 8/10 ...341:10/8/10 ... Discharged & Close: 12/9/10

I am so happy that they are going to work with you. Back in the summer I found 4 abandoned 4 week old kittens behind my house. Since my dogs do not do well with cats I quickly found homes for them. The kittens are doing well and are very healthy. I am so happy that people are out there still that have a heart. I can not stand to see animals abused and it always brings tears to my eyes when animals get adopted. I may not have much money, but I always try to help my four legged friends.Chapter 7 filed on 4/23/2010

Mention to your vet about the cat preferring dog food. Dog food is missing an essential amino acid called TAURINE that cats must have for good health. The lack of it can cause heart problems which of course has a trickle down effect to all other organs. Just a cheapie thought. I will send good kitty karma your way, IAO!!!~~ Filed Over Median Income Chapter 7: 12/17/2010 ~~ 341 Held: 1/12/2011 ~~ Discharged: 03/16/2011 ~~Not an attorney - just an opinionated woman.
