    More Black Friday Insanity

A Black Friday shopper who collapsed while shopping at a Target store in West Virginia went almost unnoticed as customers continued to hunt for bargain deals.

Walter Vance, the 61-year-old pharmacist, who reportedly suffered from a prior heart condition, later died in hospital, reports MSNBC .

Witnesses say some shoppers ignored and even walked over the man's body as they continued to shop, reports the New York Daily News .

Friends and co-workers saddened to learn of his death, expressed outrage over the way he was treated by shoppers.

"Where is the good Samaritan side of people?" Vance's co-worker Sue Compton told WSAZ-TV .

"How could you not notice someone was in trouble? I just don't understand if people didn't help what their reason was, other than greed because of a sale."

Gawker points out there is no legal obligation to come to someone's rescue, only a moral one.

While some news organizations say that no one helped the collapsed man, his wife refuted this report.

Lynne Vance said six nurses shopping in the store came to her husband's rescue and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, notes the Sunday Gazette Mail .

This wasn't the only incident to taint America's biggest shopping day.

While one customer sprayed fellow shoppers with pepper spray so she could snag a video game, another scenario involved an exhausted Target worker accidentally driving her car into a canal after working the Black Friday

      Damned if I know.
I can't think of a single thing to buy -short of a food scarcity situation- that would be worth it.

Really makes you think twice about Christmas, doesn't it? So many people have no idea about the true meaning of this holiday, and it certainly was never supposed to be about how much stuff I can get for the least amount, while overrunning everyone. The me society is still in effect and each year gets worse, or so it seems, sigh...

Personally, I sat in my chair and ordered a few things in for the holidays off the internet for my husband and kids, and it is stuff they truly wanted. We are down to just a few things now each year, and last year we did not do anything as we were going through the bk. My kids are adults now, so we wait for the after Christmas sales to go shopping.

If more people would just focus on having a nice quiet meal with their family, one simple gift at most for each immediate family member, and spending quality time with the family, they could take time to enjoy the wonderful sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of this time of the year.

I worked out in that mess for years. After getting out of retail years ago I refuse to go shopping during the holiday season. Sad thing is people do not realize that the same sales they run on Black Friday is the same deals they run throughout the year. In fact some of the sales are better throughout the year.

One corporation I managed actually took all the merchandise to a higher price and then gave a sale price off of the newer price. People did not catch that this happened, but next time you go into a store take a look at what the actual price is and then go back a month later and see if that piece of merchandising is higher. You may be shocked to find that some stores are doing this.

I was at Target and saw this sale sign. Funny thing, I lifted it up and saw the usual price and it was the same. It was just a gimmick. And they couldn't be bothered to remove the original price.

this is so true. these stores raise their prices way high the week before and then drop them 10% or lower for these "sales". i too think 99% of these sales are just gimmicks and come on's to get people into the store to buy what they don't need or want.
