First Deflation (housing as example), then unemployment, and then inflation. We are living in "interesting times". 'Hub

We need to step back and remember that Germany also went through hyper-inflation, but look at them now. We will get through this.
In the meanwhile, stock up on things that store well, and things you know you will need over the next few years. Dave Ramsey is always talking about rice and beans, well, he's right. They are the cheapest food sources and they store very well for years if you are careful how you store them.
The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me." Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.

Amen, brother. I have preached this for years. It has saved me in rare situations even when we had big bucks. The hundred dollar bill tucked into a wallet and "forgotten" has gotten me out of many messes as tow truck drivers don't take checks. Also in the best situation, food can be eaten at less costs so the food insurance idea is sound. You can't eat paper money when you can't use it. That day may come. That is, if you have any.

Not to mention they are some of the few foods that store well sans the use of preservatives, unlike canned foods. Rice is a good source of carbs, and beans are a good source of protein. And, they go well together!

As a born and bred Southerner, I resemble that remark, Hub!! LOL
A GREAT way to get ideas on food storage/purchasing for long term use is by a Google search of: "Mormon pantry" or "Mormon survival list". Since almost every Mormon stores a year's supply of food, these folks have it down pat. A good resource is also the Latter Day Saints Preparedness Manual which is available in PDF here: http://www.abysmal.com/LDS/Preparedn...eparedness.pdf

I agree! We will all get through this as we always have.
Dave Ramsey who I used to agree with is not seeing the big picture. He tells everyone to stay out of debt (even though some debt is good debt) and to invest in mutual funds over the long haul.
You would financially be wiped out in a hyperinflation if you listen to Dave Ramsey except for the "rice & beans" advice.
We probably won't have Hyperinflation in the country at least like Germany had because our currency and all paper currencies are debt based. In other words once inflation gets to several hundred percent then real interest rates will go up and that will cause the needed deflationary crash.
The essence of freedom is the proper limitation of Government
And, stocking up on seeds would be a good idea, too, for growing your own vegetables.
You have to be careful and get regermination seeds. Our food is so highly refined that the spawned foods have sterile seeds. They can be gotten and also packed in nitrogen cans. Pinto beans is a very cheap seed for legumes. They germinate right away, the fruit is a bit tough and stringy if you eat them as if they were cut green beans. However quite acceptable.

DR does advertise gold/silver purchases. Does not make sense. Now the gold and silver idea isn't all bad, but not for spending on commodities. Other commodities are the best money if inflation goes crazy. How would you buy a loaf of bread from a neighbor with a Silver Eagle? A $50 coin for a $3 item? NO the gold and silver is good for one thing. When the money system is reestablished and they pick up your green paper for red paper, you can buy spendable red paper for the real value of the silver or gold.
Ammunition of all calibers is good for barter as you can purchase by the bullet or box. Soap bars, toothpaste, toilet paper (hard to store for space) as well as extra food. Protecting your stash is a bit of a problem as this will become a problem.
Here is an excellent History Channel movie/documentary. "After Armageddon" in ten issues. Youtube and as one ends the next just click on. It runs about an hour and is VERY informative is narration and action. 'Hub
