    When does this end?

I know, it's called life. And life can throw curve balls. But there comes a point when you scratch your head and wonder if this will come to an end.

It started with the financial crisis and all the strain in 2008. Since then, I have seen my job outsourced to Asia, and many of my colleagues laid off. We haven't had raises in three years and I now do the work of three people.

Everything keeps going up and there doesn't seem to be any respite for the little guy. Of course, I had to file the big B, but once that debt is discharged, I won't be "free." or have a "fresh start." There was pending judgment brought by Big Bank (fill in whatever name you want) and I was forced into filing sooner than I planned and forced to pay the atty from my 401 (k). I borrowed it. That decreased my income, because I wanted to find a way just to pay it off without deducting from my paycheck. I was told that I wasn't allowed that they would treat it as a disbursement.

In the meantime, I spent most of the horrible winter very sick and unable to go to my drs. Why? Because they named the whole organization in the petition, instead of naming individuals. It was humiliating. There were several personal calamities which ocurred also (deaths in the family, etc). The other day my crown fell off my tooth and I just burst into tears, because it means big $$$. No other loans are permitted from the 401 (k).

I am grateful that I am still employed and still have some kind of a place to live, but after three years, I don't know anymore.
It seems that everything is piling on and on. I am not out of the woods yet. About three weeks until that deadline passes and I am still waiting for dropping of the proverbial shoe.

This is still everywhere and there is no relief and there are so many of us. When does this end? I have to get this out of my system. I promise I won't kvetch anymore.

hang in there fiona....and while this is going to sound harsh, its not meant to be at all, but as my mom always tells me "remember there are others out there that are far worse off than you are dear". At first I would get annoyed when mom used to say that to me because to me..it didnt matter what anyone else was going through, this was ME / My family / my life - not anyone elses. But that changed when I really stopped and looked around, listening to stories of others who, while they may have lost their jobs just as my hubby did, they also lost everything else in the process. Their home, cars, retirements, etc... all due to choices they made or choices that were made for them without consent.

We're lucky - we got to keep our home, we received a HAMP mod... we received severance pay, family assistance, friends that stood beside us, and finally another job offer. While it was much less $ (1/3) than the one lost - it was more money than the one secured after almost a year of unemployment, therefore making life much easier for us during our Ch. 13. I'm thankful our trustee is pretty laid back, isnt requiring any pay increases or tax refunds...and is happy so long as we make our payments on time every month, as there are many that are not so fortunate.

So hang in there sunshine - and know that we're all here to listen and can understand what you're going through and know that "this too shall pass"... (hugs)

So I am not the only one who feels this way??? Did'nt think so. Same story here, business went down the drain kids getting older and more expensive, college, no raises, file bk and cannot get ahead. Deaths, dental, cars, you know name it and we have experienced it. Everyday life stuff.

Sucks, but, there is tomorrow and it will get better. HAng in there, it will get better. One day we can all laugh about the life and times of now, I hope.

Well there are lots of people who go through situations like this, even I went through the same hopeless situation like this. We all come out of it, remember the old adage, " there is light at the end of tunner".

I'd like to follow up my own post: We are more fortunate than most, but only "JustBroke" had more trouble than we getting through our four year journey. We sacrificed in a gift about 10 million dollars of land to become a State Park, since we had plenty of money. An enemy of mine put us into bk with serial law suits never going anywhere except to lawyers. Went broke.

We learned a lot in those years. We learned "things" don't mean much, but new values became a blessing. We now see everyday our neighbors leaving houses empty all around us. We wonder where they have gone and if they bked. We wonder what will fill the void of all those empty houses? There are now several men around town that everyday are present. One is selling a card table full of tomatoes, only. One selling boiled peanuts. Some selling just water melons. I expect soon a cart with a man who will sharpen knives for a dollar as there were such in the Great Depression. All of this could be avoided.

Open the wells here home. The speculators will take a hit, the oil will go cheap, the food products will become cheaper, help our own (where is FEMA while Mississippi River is flooding?).

Allow the true value of the real estate to establish and instead of Gov paying big banks, let the Gov pay the difference in the mortgage as long as the person would pay the true value. Of course, without work, you can pay for nothing. So, how's NAFTA treating YOU? NAFTA put our farmer out of business.

Well I feel very sorry for our OP but there are worse cases and it always gets bad before it gets better, and it will get better. First rule of getting better is, rely on no other person, become self sufficient, make sacrifices even you have to lose furniture or "things". As long as the family is whole and healthy you have everything you need. Take the reins into your own hands and invent your exit from poverty and poor fortune. It is all in how you look at the situation. Half full, or half empty? 'Hub

sad isnt it? Funny how no one wants to use the word "Depression" - yet we are clearly in one and have been for quite some time.

Time to get back to basics & necessities: plant your own "victory" garden, raise a few chickens (chk local laws first), learn to bake/cook from scratch, join a CSA or co-op if you cannot garden (or even if you can), buy local, go in with neighbors/family on purchasing a side of beef / pork, open the curtains for light vs. electricity, ask the "old timers" about Depression era recipes (thereby saving on food...), etc etc etc. Some of the best recipes are from that era as nothing was wasted; actually we just obtained a few of grandma's recipes and have made a few of them for friends (pot-luck) - now everyone wants the recipes. Some even asked what food magazine we got them from... Amazing the things you can make with ham broth, flour, 2 potatoes and an onion!

I think we ARE in a Depression...guys, check out www.shadowstatistics.com - real unemployment - as measured BEFORE the 1980's - stands at almost 20% - in Detroit, it's around 40%....

As usual, you blindly place blame that does not exist. There are hundreds of oil leases that has yet to be acted on. There will be no going back to $2-$3 gas, so get over it. If the the Europeans can get by on $8 gas and not moan about it, so can we. A nation that is 4% of the worlds population that consumes 25% of the world oil supplies is not sustainable when over a billion Chinese and indians graduate to the middle class will drive up the price of this commodity.

What you have to remember is that yes we consume more oil than other nations, but we also drive a lot more than other nations. Many Europeans do not have to drive 1 hour to work. Also they do not pay for health care like we do in the states. So yes we do have a reason to MOAN. We are paying twice as much to fill up our tanks, because we have to drive twice as much.

Whether it's "Bammy's New World" or McCain and Palin's new world it wouldn't make any difference.

As for the OP's question "When does this end"? Well we are being told that it has ended by the same people that didn't see it coming in the first place and far too many are believing what they are being told.

I think when the majority no longer believe their leaders and change their mindset such as boycotting the too bigs and cutting back on the entitlements you will see the change and for the better.

Sadly this will only take a much worse crisis to wake everyone up, so for now best of luck to you.
