So maybe our teens can get jobs at the car wash? So far they are showing me that maybe we do need them gone. I did roof work when i was young, maybe this is a demonstration of the reason our kids are finding it hard to get summer/weekend work.

I know that these guys work their butts off and don't complain, so it's one of those "outside the bubble" thoughts. You know, one that in reality has multiple answers. The kind that according to John Fedler aka Lightning we are not supposed to have because we all have to conform to one mode of thinking. You know, if you listen to Rush limbaugh and LIKE HIM then according to John you think like him and agree with everything he says. Poor Mr. Fedler with his multiple accounts. At least if you are going to have multiple accounts have some imagination and use some duality in your thinking, because in truth we are all a little bit of a sophist. Just a tad...

Poor Lightning, sitting all these months, clicking, wanting to post, waiting but unable to disguise himself in any way. How bloody transparent can you be?

For this moment, for this thought at this moment my feeling is to hell with them, if washing my car makes my neighborhood better so be it. Now when i go to do roof repairs in a week or two I may feel different! that's called reality! It's that $15.00 cuccumber that needs sick leave, annual leave and medical insurance that I worry about, but in a sense we do provide some medical insurance, but on the other hand we can't pay GM wages to pick veggies... damn that double mindedness... wish i had a million bucks then i could afford to be single minded!

My wife said that the Weston deal at the car wash is related to the fact that Immigration has been hitting Weston all week. From what I understand the roof deal may be the same issue. I know from someone that they have been checking convenience stores in certain areas, just pulling up and interviewing folks drinking beer or waiting for their buddies.

Unfortunately i cannot verify the Convenience Store story because i have not been seated under the oak outside 7-11 on the old sofa lately. I have more "high and mighty" endeavors in mind and have not put my "feelers" out to the "community" lately. Though I do regard hanging out at the convenience store as a way to get sound legal, financial and psychiatric advice, you wouldn't believe how many "Alan Greenspans" and other worldly advisors experts there are in such places. As one "highly edumacated" man on line in front of me at the Shell Station on 125th and 7th ave. in North Miami said "89 cent for a soda, ya'll sh*t to high, that's why we burn you down". You see, an economics lesson in thirty seconds! Consumer responses to high pricing! The man new the correlation between high pricing and consumer reaction and was able to annunciate it! Unfortunately he may have been clouded on the issue of local supply/demand driving the cost of items, especially items you don't have to buy.

Well maybe its good to see some law enforcement on this issue. I hope thats what is happening, I really would hate to see the outcome if they truly are trying to show how important illegal aliens are to the economy, thats pretty ballsy of them to go that far

Just saw the local 11 pm news cast. It's not just illegals. It's all immigrants.

The newscasters were telling stories of several businesses owned by Hispanic immigrants that will be closed tomorrow. McDonalds is warning customers there may be delays in service and some shortages in menu offerings.

The people are not only planning not to work, they are also planning on keeping their kids home from school tomorrow as well.

They want recognition for their contribution to the USA and their efforts in the community.

Keep in mind, we don't live on a coast with a hugely diversified population like CA or FL or NY. This is middle America and the immigrants are making themselved heard loud and clear here as well.

My Grandfather made himself heard loud and clear, going to work every day. My other ancestors probably made themselves heard in the same way also. But of course we do have our share of horse thieves and scalawags in the family tree also. Yep, fooland, he'll show up again. I'm just a BK schlepp, I still face financial issues daily, though most are gone. I like the Forum and have loved this thread. It touches on what most of us are talking about daily at work, whether we be hispanic, anglo or black. no viewpoint is the particular property of one culture, surprisingly. And people change deopending on circumstance. John Fedker Lightning seems to lump everyone into a particular mode of thinking, I despise being treated like that.

Last little march they had, their pics got took, and then there was a roundup nationwide of illegals shortly thereafter!!!

Yes, immigrants play an important role in our nation. We are all immigrants in one generation or another...

They contribute as much to our society now as they ever have....

The purpose of their "march today" is to try to get the US Government to to make all the "illegals" they have slipped in - BE LEGAL....... This includes their parents, grandparents, children, brothers and sisters, from the legal immigant's homeland. (people they have slipped across the borders)......

They want this done without "due process" - just because they are now here in the US.......

Yes, it's a proven fact that immigrants, (mostly hispanic origin or hispanic speaking) will work for far lower wages than most citizens.

Thier objective of todays march is:

1. Do not work today and see how much they are missed and shut the business down where they work.
2. Keep you kids out of school today - no funds for schools.
3. Buy nothing today - no tax dollars for the govt., no profits for businesses.

Hopefully their will be no riots in the streets - but it usually happens!!!

Hopefully they can march and make their voice heard without rioting, burning, destruction of property, and somebody getting killed in the process........

Let their voices be heard - PEACEFULLY.......

There was a man on the TV news this morning who's heading up this Boycott.

In the interview with him, he specifically mentioned about "their inability to get driver's licenses and insurance. And when they work and save up to buy a car, if they're involved in an accident, or an altercation, or simply have a run in with a policeman, their cars get confiscated."

The Reporter/Interviewer appropriately pointed out that the gentleman was specifically referring to what happens to illegal immigrants and not folks that are in this country legally.

The reporters announced several big nationwide companies that will be closed today as a result of the shortage of workers. Gallo Wines in Napa Valley, CA. Tyson Foods, the world's largest meat producer. Several of their plants will be closed today.

I do have to admit there is some "Anglo" discrimination against certain professions. When I was in college, I was out running around with a gal friend of mine one day. We stopped by a Butcher shop so she could buy her weekly meat supply. There was a guy behind the counter that was obviously quite taken with her. Gave her the best cuts. Added extra ounces he did not charge her for. Spoke really nicely to her.

The name of the butcher shop was Smith and Sons and this guy was one of the sons. He already owned a piece of the business and when Dad retired, the biz would belong to him and his brother. It was an extremely successful business and growing. Sons had new ideas for foods and services to add to attract a bigger client base and Dad was going along with them. They had a primo location. I could see that this guy had potential to provide a very comfortable lifestyle.

So I asked the chick about possibly hooking up with the guy. He was ruggedly handsome, quick wit, very nice and personable, and already successful in business. And it was obvious he was a bit sweet on her. My friend said, and I quote, "I could never date a butcher!" like it was some sort of disease or something. Frankly, I've never understood it.

Hubby, his Dad, and his brother have done far worse than sell meat and they lived to talk about it. Hubby worked for the City Sewage Treatment facility when we first got married. FIL and BIL were coal miners. I've seen both of them at work. With Coal miners, you can't tell a black man from a white man unless they take their hard hats off. Then you have to look to see if you can tell by their hair. That may be so dirty, you may not even know then.

Ah its amazing, where are all the INS agents today haven't seen them on the TV. Anyway maybe I'll have quiet day at the restaurant, may be the only one there.It still amazes me ,as the news is saying "Illegals protesting", yet they don't look fearful of arrest. I suppose there will be a terrorist protest soon, seems its hard to get pilot lessons.

Haven't been around in awhile, my husband had bypass surgery and I have been in the hospital. (can't win for losing, well was reasonably debt free for awhile)
Been reading what PHANTOM LIGHTENING ie John234 posted. Couldn't decide to laugh or pray for him. Praying won out.
Again, I work in the system, guy just got put on probation, minimum that we can find out his 3rd DWI (2 here this year) At first the case was assigned to 2different officers, and we realized he was the same person, uses 2 last name's. Speaks NO English, has been in this area working for 5 years at least. Has no concept about probation etc. If I get real lucky, he will stay here and do what he is supposed to do or disappear into never never land among all his relatives. Lives in a small trailer with NUMEROUS relatives that the faces are always changing. I can't converse with him and he brings a translator with him. INS has tightened up on regulations but they also have a load, then they have to make sure that they are given their rights and due process so even if they are shipped out, they will come back..... as someone else....
I want to see where John234 got his info on Social Services. May the single mothers statement is close to true, but the single white males get very few services unless they are disabled. I don't agree that illegals should be able to access "the system", unless it is while they are waiting to be shipped back. Their are channels that they can go thru and come to the US the right way.
Civil law provides for bankruptcy, whether it is by individuals or businesses. I, not most of the people on this site, did not set out to RUN UP DEBT and then file bankruptcy because we wanted something to do so we could get straight financially and then run up more debt and file again.
Whomever Lightening, John234, Fedler, are, either one in the same or cyber related, get a life.

One more thing, entering the USA illegally is considered a Misdemeanor, which is the same offense as if you drive with improper tags on your car or are driving drunk.

In my opinion, racking up large sums of debt that you cannot possibly pay and knowingly doing so to avoid paying them should be a crime.

I've seen some real angry statements coming from this board about immigration. I've also seen quotes from dead presidents.

Did you ever think that maybe you are wrong in your thinking and that the way you live your lives is unhealthy? I don't mean to be an *******, but do you ever ask yourselves, why am I so angry all the time? Why is it that I go to church, but then am so angry towards people who are not like me? Why is it that I don't like people or feel superior to people that are not white? Why do I drive so far away from work to live on large plots of land so I can be away from the city (which really means the minorities)? Why do you work in jobs you hate, to buy stuff you don't need to impress people you don't like?

Just some food for thought.

John, you disgust me. We are not here by choice. I tried for years to pay medical bills that my own personal health insurance, that I paid the policy for out of pocket, refused to cover. Until you have been bent over and railed by the system, and done everything you can to pay bills that you should not have had to pay, you need to take a fat dose of shut the hell up and go find some other people to whine to. I would wish not what has happened to any of us, even on you the scum of the earth, to be unfairly forced through the economic wringer. Don't ever come back here crying about people not wanting to pay their bills. Sometimes it becomes impossible. Until your mind expands beyond that of a minutely small capacity, you may never understand.

Something funny if its true, but was talking to one of the guys at work ( an immigrant) about this, he told me when he got to the US , there were INS people there and that none of them could speak english very well.

You really aren't worth writing about, but since I need to take out my aggression on someone, I am writing. It is almost unbelievable that anyone is that narrow-minded and insensitive. Is this how you get your thrills, because, if so, I really need to be praying for you instead of writing?

Go get a life. I am not here because I ran up a bunch of debt. I hate this with every fiber of my being. You just don't know. I have learned a lot in this process and yes, wish I'd done some things differently, but didn't plan on having 7 surgeries, two complicated pregnancies and a sick husband. And I work two jobs.

Perhaps you need to get something else to do as well.
