This may be a really dumb question on what can I purchase but...I'm not sure

I know I can stock up on food, get my car fixed and things like that to remove any excess monies (I have about 2000 now and will have 322 from unemployment each week)

Do I worry about the 2000? Will the trustee take it? I'd like to keep it for a deposit on rent when my house forecloses, although my car does need tires and could use a battery. But, can I buy say, a food saver? Mine finally quit last week and it really has saved me a lot of money as I can buy when things are on sale and then freeze it for a much longer period of time.

What is considered frivolous? I know high ticket items are out - but I usually shop at thrift stores anyway. Not for something like a food saver though. If it's there, it probably doesn't work well.

This probably has been answered many times over and I have researched the posts, which is how I know about the high ticket items, but what is reasonable to spend? I'll be in a Chapter 7 FYI.

in florida we were only allowed to have 150 in a "bank" account.....now...we never had $150 because we paid everything via check so of course it appeared as more than the 150...however, if one subtracted our bills we would have been in the minus.

i'm not suggesting you be dishonest....however.......i don't think i would put the cash anywhere but the mattress at this point for emergencies....

Actually my lawyer said to keep only 10-20 in the bank, just enough to keep it open. I have to keep 50 in for that (it's a small bank) and I am keeping 10 in Wells Fargo to head people off, so yes, it is hidden BUT I assume I have to account for it to the Trustee. I am keeping all receipts with the cash I do use in case there are questions. My little bank gives me free money orders because I am over 55 so will do money orders to pay bills.

OOOPS - sorry, this should have been in general bankruptcy talk, not general talk.

        MODERATOR - can you move?

honestly, we were never asked...except what we did with the 401 we had cashed in two years prior...which all went to bills and we had the back up. other than that...our trustee never asked...
