    Ready To Blow A Hole Through That Front Door....

    Hey let me tell yall what's been going on. About 3 weeks ago, i went out to a club with my friends and my fiance calls me and tell me that someones messing with the front door. Rattling the knob trying to get in. So i rushed home just incase. I didnt know wether to believe her or not because she didnt want me to go out that night. so about 3 days ago, me and my fiance was about to go to bed and then out of no where I hear somone rattling the door. (and down here in GA, people are crazy and if they get in your house, they coming to kill).... so i creep to the door slowly and they i hear somone put a key in the key hole. then the door unlocks. thank god i have a dead bolt lock that can only be accessed from the inside of the home. Then it stopped when the person came to the conclusion that they could not get in. Man it was a messed up feeling knowing that it was possible that they or the person could've gotten into my home and did some damage to me and my family. The next day i went out and purchased a Remington 12 guage pump action shotgun with a 18 " extension. This thing will blow a hole through the door the next time someone wants to come messing with my door and i sleep with the shotty right next to my bed. of course without the amunition in it for safty reasons.

    Why didn't you grab your trusty 4 foot crowbar, swing open the door and give him what we here in Brooklyn like to call "A Nu Yawk Hello"?

      LOL. I feel you on that. I'm from NY myself. But you don't understand how manytimes you see home invasions down here in atl ga and families be getting slaughtered. I was tempted when my adrenalin kicked in, but when you have kids and a family, you have to think smart.

        Do you rent, or do you own? If you rent, you need to be in the leasing office ASAP finding out why someone has a key to your door. Otherwise, think back about who might have had a way to make a duplicate key.

          I'm with Staci. Someone tries to get into your home with a KEY, and your first instinct is to buy a gun?!? I hope you're kidding. Self-defense is nothing to mess with. If you don't report these attempted break-ins and then shoot someone, you're going to face some serious scrutiny.

          And as an aside, if you and your girlfriend don't trust each other about such important things, you have another problem. What if she were having a medical emergency? Would you ignore her so you could keep drinking with your buddies?

            Since the deadbolt only can be unlatched from the inside...

            Common sense is that this person has probably been in your home when you weren't... Because only the bottom lock (the one the key can open) would be the only thing keeping them out, and obviously if your gone you can't have the deadbolt latched...

            I would start wondering if this was the first time they have attempted to access your place... Or, when your gone, they can get in and hide if they really want to do damage to your family... I would change all locks immediately..

              If this is a real post, I mean, I'm a Miami Boy and we don't have families "getting slaughtered" on a regular basis and surprisingly, rural areas have more break-ins than we do, I mean it's not normal even here to get messed with like that or even broken into for that matter. Honestly, I live right next to the walkway in our TH development and my GMC is parked in my space and MANY MANY nights while bringing things in I've left the keys all night hanging in the door with no problem. Since I've done third shift at times I can tell you alot of teens, tweens and grownups pass my place in their comings and goings at nite. And believe me we are one mixed neighborhood, we have a "Global Village" in this development up and down the economic scale, those who are very well off and those who are struggling. Most are fairly honest and watch out for each other, I'm sure this is true of alot of neighborhoods no matter what part of town.

              If it is a legit post then that Remington is a good idea. I'd have it cocked and loaded and when they entered ready to go but I wouldn't shoot through the door and i'd damn sure make sure that they had a chance to flee after seeing it barrel to eye and then change the locks. Down here we have the Castle Doctrine and in the house means, no problem, shoot through the door, possible problem, with a key, likely problem, if threatened or in fear of your life, the Castle Doctrine also applies even if you could flee you can still stand your ground and kill. It is a great law and is meant to give the honest armed citizen a tool in the war against criminals.

              That being said I never want to take a life. Blood under any condition is a bad thing to have on your hands. Report it to the Police every time, be armed, vigilant, defensive. But make sure that you have your wits about you when you have a weapon in your hand. A knee jerk reaction in a bad situation can ruin alot of lives. And remember alot depends on the Police Report as to whether or not the State Attorney comes after you. This issue should not be handled with emotion, not when you are armed.

                Definitely wait until they come THRU the door so they are inside when you shoot. Outside, even on the front porch, causes many more legal problems. And I like baseball bats myself. Got several of those handy to leave one at every door.

                You really should report this to your Landlord. They coulda just hired a new maint person who has a questionable background. Get the locks changed ASAP.

                Definitely sounds like someone who's had access to your keys, but maybe not your home. Someone who'd been in your home, and planning this in advance woulda known about the other lock.

                Never give a whole ring of keys when having work done on your car. Just give the shop the keys to your car. Someone in the shop would have time to make an impression or even run out and cut a copy.

                  Yup. WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE INSIDE before blasting them!! And after you shoot them...DO NOT LET THEM GET OUTSIDE....that is, if you didn't finish em off on your first shot(s).

                    I keep a nice little 'nightstick' on hand. A breaker bar. A swing from that thing would make anyone without a firearm extremely sorry they decided to mess with the wrong person.

                      Hey what's up yall. The first thing I did, Was called 911. The cops came out but ofcourse there's nothing they can do. But atleast they have it on file that this is something that is going on in my community.

                      REPLY TO JENNI: Your response made me laugh really hard. Self defense is nothing to mess with. What type of response is that. How would you feel if someone came running through your door with a glock in there hand and there was absolutly nothing you could do to defend yourself or your family. Would you prefer to sit there and watch and be a victom of murder or would you do everything in your power to defend yourself and your family. Yes I went and purchased a gun for the sense of security for me and my fam.

                      moving along:
                      The next morning the first thing I did was go to Home depot and replaced all locks and got a security system installed in my apartment. Went to the leasing office and spoke with them about it, and they did nothing but check to see if they physically had the keys in there office and they did. The new locks that i've replaced they do not have a copy of that key.

                      And to clear things up a little bit. I do have common sense, and i would not just blow a hole through the door not knowing what's behind it.

                        Check on the Net for Landlord Tenant rules in your state.

                        Our Landlord just popped in on us the other day. No knock. No Hello. No nothing. Just used her key and came on in. Turns out, our State has no rules about Landlords gaining entry to the property. She had the legal right to do what she did.

                        But, you wanna be sure you aren't in violation of the law as a Tenant. Our State specifically says we can't change the locks. If we do, we're supposed to provide the Landlord with a key.

                        Be sure of your rights and that you aren't breaking the law as well.

                          Lots of people don't read the state laws on changing locks on rental property..... and I'm one of them.....

                          Back when I rented - the house was mine till I moved out..... AND YES, I did change the locks too....

                          Call it a "senior momemt" - DUH - I didn't know those laws existed - tehe!!

                          Some landlords like to POKE around in peoples things.... when they aren't around.

                          If the landlord says anything about the locks being different that tells your he's been trying to get in.... just say "when I get to town I'll have you a key made, this is the only one I have".... and then go on about your business.

                          I always felt if the landlord wanted in - I COULD LET HIM IN WHEN I'M HOME....

                          Would I shoot somebody breaking into my home - in a heartbeat!! Am I a "mamma that packs"??? You bet I am!!! Have for nearly 40 years!!

                          Its like Amex Card - I don't leave home without it.

                          I also have up motion lights on each side of the decks (front and back) that come on if movement on the decks, plus a video camera that shows me whose on the decks (tv in my bedroom).. Camera outfit cost me about $200 - 15 years ago, excellent investment. It plays on my small 13" tv continously at night. If I get woke up I check the tv screen to see whats going on... then I let THE GIRLS out!!

                          I used it a great deal when my mom was bedridden and had sitters. (amazing what people will do when they "think" nobody sees them)....

                          LOL, when I hired them I told them that at "any given time" I could and would put up cameras if I thought my mom was being mistreated...... Needless to say, THEY WERE ALREADY INSTALLED - hidden!!

                          One lady was absolutely dumbfounded when I sat her down, showed her a tape, and then fired her ASS.........

                          BESIDES - I have the best alarms available - MY GIRLS!!
                          NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING stirs outside my door or window that MY GIRLS don't growl and tell me about....

                          The best investment a single woman can make is a dog!!!
                          Not only a companion and buddy, but can and could save your life.............

                          The 2nd best investment is a gun.... and have the knowledge of using it.

                              I'm not generally the type to search out the rules either Minny. Especially since we haven't had to deal with a Landlord in over 20 years.

                              I just got soooooooooo PO'd that our Landlord walked in without so much as a knock or a Hello or anything I almost went straight to her with both barrels. But I thought, Oh Wait,........ I'd better check out my rights here. Don't wanna go flappin' my jaws if I ain't in the right.

                              We rented before and never had that happen. The Landlord just walk in like that. It was really irritating. Always before, they tell you they're coming, what day, about what time, what they're gonna do, etc. Not this time.

                              Sure enough, there it was, on the Net. Our State has no statute regarding Landlord's right to enter. She don't have to give notice or anything. She can just walk in any old time she pleases.

                              So then I thought, we'll change the locks. That'll fix her! But no can do, at least according to the laws. So, we are already planning to move at the end of our lease. Started sorting and packing to get ready to move, AGAIN.
